I just think that they are financially well off and that the profits of a couple of playoffs games is not the primary agenda of the owner.
Making the playoffs in year one of a rebuild must be more about prestige and winning. The money, from 2 home dates, would seem insignificant for an organization that draws well during the regular season.
They don’t even draw well in round one anyways, maybe 4000+. And the majority of value section tickets are discounted on shopping websites and for local HS students. And correct me if I’m wrong, but a percentage of the gate goes directly in the OHL’s pocket? How much of the gate does the OHL receive?
Along with the overhead of running an event in the Meridian Centre, it also cost money to be a playoff team (e.g., bus, meals, hotels, etc…). In addition, the IceDogs don’t receive any additional money from for concession sales, the 50/50 raffle or parking.
Of course, when all is factored in, the IceDogs make some type of profit - care to guess? I can’t imagine the “net return” for a couple of home games – being the impetus to make the playoffs this year.
