GAME 48 / 68 vs SSM
SSM is one of the OHL’s most storied franchises. The “Greyhounds” name has been a part of hockey history in the Soo since 1919. The team became a member of the OHA - around the same time Paul Henderson scored the “Goal of the Century”. In case you missed it… The Great One! In 1977, with the 3rd pick in the OHL draft, SSM selected a 16 year old kid named Wayne Gretzky (5.08 / 155 lbs). The rest is history! Great Scott, who is Brian Gualazzi? Gretzky had requested to wear #9 for his idol Gordie Howe, but that number was already taken by Gualazzi. Gretzky then chose # 14 instead (that my number!). After a few games, coach Muzz MacPherson suggested wearing two 9s – from that point on he wore the legendary #99. And today, that number is permanently retired! In 63 games that year, Gretzky scoring 70 goals - 112 assists for 182 points. Gretzky lost the scoring title to Bobby Smith, who finished with a 192-point season. Since SSM joined the OHA in 1972, they have sent 77 alumni onto play in the NHL – and three of them (Paul Coffey, Ron Francis and Wayne Gretzky) have been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Great talent - a SSM tradition 99 Frost, Morgan NHL - PHI (2017) Rd: 1 (#27) - Stroh’s guy! Coming from the heat to the Frost! 00 Hayton, Barrett NHL - ARI (2018) Rd: 1 (#5) - Gretzky coached in Arizona. FYI. I have NEVER meet a Coyote fan. 98 Sambrook, Jordan NHL - DET (2016) Rd: 5 (#137) – Gretzky’s favourite team growing up. 98 Hollowell, Mac NHL - TOR (2018) Rd: 4 (#118) – Gretzky was almost traded to the Leafs in 1996. 99 Villalta, Matthew NHL - LAK (2017) Rd: 3 (#72) - Gretzky became the NHL’s all-time scoring leader in a LA Kings jersey. Greatest IceDogs season ever? 2011- 2012 Ice Dogs (94 points in 68 games) 2018 -2018 IceDogs (67 points in 47 games) <> IceDogs need 28 points in 21 games to surpass the franchise record. Great production from the IceDogs top six: 5 Robertson, Jason 41 34 42 76 7 Jones, Ben 47 28 43 71 10 Thomas, Akil 42 24 44 68 14 Maksimov, Kirill 44 30 31 61 37 Tomasino, Philip 46 24 25 49 39 Studnicka, Jack 39 19 30 49 The Great Wall <>Dhillon, Stephen NIAG 39 - 3.02 - 0.909 <>Villalta, Matthew SSM 33 - 3.02 - 0.900 Two Great Teams: <> #1 PP Niagara (28%) vs #2 PK SSM (82.2%) <> #8 PP SSM (24.0%) vs #18 Niagara (74.7%) <> Both are 8-1-1-0 in the last 10 games, which makes Niagara and SSM the two hottest teams in the OHL. To quote Three Dog Night: “This game should be a great one.” Anyone else notice that Uberti is becoming an OHL player? #tellallweekend |

A small note: Toronto Maple Leafs acquire former Soo Greyhound Jake Muzzin for Toronto’s 1st round pick in the 2019 Entry Draft, and two prospects.
Another Kyle Dubas connection? And is Toronto’s search for a stud Defenceman finally over? Are you surprised Willie Nye wasn’t involved in the deal? |

This game might sell out.
Not that many tickets left, less than 400.

The Leafs traded away Durzi, their first and another prospect to Los Angeles for Jake Muzzin. You have it all wrong in your post..Durzi played his whole career in the Sound before his recent trade to Guelph so I’m not sure of your Dubas connection? I think the price paid by Toronto was steep...they traded two of their top six prospects and. First rounder for a defenseman with this year and next year on his contract. Should be a good pickup by Toronto though as he vastly improves their woeful defense. I suspect Nylander is gone in the offseason .. Marleau too ... with the addition of Muzzin Gardiner is also gone this offseason ... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
