I don't think that is coming anytime soon. I doubt the city will want to pay that expense as any advertising revenue the city would receive from it would be limited to River Lion games and special events. And I don't think DeDobbelaer is committed enough to pay that expense.

I think a million dollars only gets you naming rights for a street . . .

Guess the Burkes reneging on that deal was the tell that they were not planning to stick around

Much as everyone enjoys a good bash at the former owners, that was the City of St.Catharines that reneged on that deal. The Burkes agreed to the million dollar sticker price for naming rights on the street and the City limited it to twenty years.

I agree the city should have just accepted the deal as it was originally announced. But from the city’s perspective, there was a lot more to the story.

Do tell! Always been curious why they would turn down that much money for a perpetual naming.

Something definitely happened in the deal breakdown it is shocking the city could not resolve whatever issue it was . I am sure the city could have used the money in exchange for essentially nothing

The solution was simple... first of all take the $1M and laugh. Secondly, rename the street (which is actually a glorified driveway) and honor the naming in perpetuity. Third, offer a similar naming opportunity for the major road (The Parkway, aka Race and McGuire Sts.). Fourth, laugh while having an extra $2M in the City's coffers.

When I used to work beside city hall many moons ago around this time ? I did not hear much laughter ?
