Default Bring in Mike Pelino

Mike Pelino would certainly bring a wealth of experience to the Icedogs:

If family is who Mike Pelino wants to be around then that would be here and if what he wants to do is “stay involved in hockey and, if possible, do most of that based out of his home. Whether it's as a consultant or maybe do some scouting, or maybe work with an organization breaking down tape and things like that," he said, then the IceDogs would be crazy to not get on the phone and bring in someone with this much experience and success at every level of hockey. Does Joey have his cell number?

He was awful as head coach of the Pete's. Missed the playoffs in both full seasons and they were well on the way in the third. That last year they won 8 out of 35 with Pelino and 18 out of 33 after Jody Hull took over. The first 2 years they had enough talent to easily make the playoffs IMO.

Mike Pelino would be a wonderful asset to help develop our young kids and help prepare the team as a whole to get stronger and smarter for a potential shot at a Memorial Cup in a few years' time. I don't even care what title they give him, just bring him on board. Go Dogs Go

Sure we can choose to focus entirely on that or look at his entire coaching career at all levels amateur, international and professional (AHL, NHL and KHL).

There is much more to his career then those two years...

...and you would be hard pressed to find someone as qualified as Mike Pelino to take on a role as… “a consultant or maybe do some scouting, or maybe work with an organization breaking down tape and things like that,” he said.

The suggestion being discussed is not about hiring Mike Pelino as a “coach”, but simply to bring him in as he indicated “a consultant, scout and video analyst”. He wants to part of a hockey organization but remain close to home with his family.

Back in 2017, the IceDogs had 10 scouts on their staff: Roger MacLeod Director; Darryl Boulley ETA; Matt Milne SCTA; Kenny Fleck Ottawa; Nathan Martine GTA; Steve Ludzik Jr. OJHL; Mark Seidel Northern Ontario; Steve Spade Michigan; Rich Lisk New Jersey; Rob Hubbert

During a radio interview, Brandon Currie mentioned that their scouting staff is currently small (8 that includes Currie and JB), so the idea they are looking to hire someone does not seem unreasonable.

And by some “unlucky” twist of fate someone with local ties and a wealth of hockey knowledge, experience and connections worldwide has become available. It’s an opportunity that the IceDogs should absolutely explore and try and take advantage of. You can be sure Mike Pelino will not unemployed for very long. Be first.

IceDogs need to hire someone to their hockey operations staff. Along with extensive hockey experience, just his local, national and international connections alone would make him invaluable consultant, advisor, recruiter and scout to an OHL team. The news story doesn’t indicate what level of hockey - just that Pelino wants to be hired into a situation where he can work from home (or near home) to be with his family. So with those limitations, the OHL would be an option - and I’ve even seen his father Lou at IceDogs games from time to time.

Just wondering why you feel Pelino signing is an impossibility.
