True Ham changed his mind as did Siebenaler (sp?) and even Dufruscia. The real question is did they change their mind because of it being Niagara or was it Marty and his staff that convinced them. It was stated that the new Head scout was a recruiting guru. That is a very hopeful sign going forward. Between Mr MacLeod, Joey Burke and the great fans in Niagara we should be in good shape to attract those players. Interesting that we really did not draft high end Americans in this draft. Surprising given the confidence of Joey and his staff to attract them to play here. Can't wait for training camp. Going to be exciting

Sibenaler is American but was never an NCAA commit. He decided OHL over USHL.

DiFruscia spent his OHL rookie season playing for an American high school but like Sibenaler never committed to an NCAA program.

Yes, these guys more than likely had NCAA options available to them. But, they had not committed to any NCAA school. Drafting someone who is already committed to playing somewhere else and convincing them to change their mind and come here is a different animal. Liam Ham is a start, hopefully they can get more to do the same.

I think Ham's offers were combo Lacrosse/Hockey offers. Dogs stepped up and offered to let him continue to play lacrosse and he agreed to come.

Dogs are in a really nice spot to trade a few young/established players that aren't needed for futures if the can add a few surprises to their roster. The Knights have been doing this the last few years with guys like Gleason, Rymsha, Sherwood and Valentini. It allows them to buy later without completely depleting the draft cupboards.

OHL teams need to guarantee draft picks a place on the team or otherwise prospects will shy away from that team.

If you want the IceDogs to go after players that are leaning towards the NCAA, the IceDogs not only have to guarantee those players a roster spot, but will also have to guarantee top minutes to those players.

I think this country club talk is sooooo ridiculous. All teams give priority to their top picks. How do you think London and Windsor get all those NCAA bound players.

Niagara Ice Dogs Ryan Campbell

http://priorityselection.ca/player/ryan_campbell_2001

No date on this scouting report – but reading this PRIORITY SELECTION REPORT Ryan Campbell sounds like a steal in the 6th round.

There has not been much talk about him? Is he NCAA bound? Anyone know more about him?

By the time we reach the 2017 OHL Priority Selection - assuming Campbell doesn't bolt from Cambridge - he will be in firm position to be the organization's first selection in the top-20 since Mitchell Dempsey went 11th overall to Plymouth in 2011.

Campbell currently stands out as a potential top-20 player in the age group who should be in firm contention for a top-10 slot when you remove NCAA-bound players. While he currently possesses all of the pro tools you could want out of a Bantam-aged player, Campbell really needs to hone in on his offensive game to become a more consistent finisher as he goes into his draft year. If he can make some strides in this area while maintaining his all-around game, there's no doubting the fact that he'll be a prospect every OHL team will be coveting.
