I never heard back from Mr. Marek.

Low and behold, it was our Ice Dogs that picked him.

I hope that the Swede reports in August.
As a leafs fan I would love to see him here playing for the dogs but unless something has changed from last week the plan for him next year is back to Sweden then the AHL. As for the London part of what you said if we trade him to them we wouldn't get much of anything because of what I already said

Being as St. Catharines is just an hour away from downtown Toronto, the Pro Staff could really keep a close eye on his development if he were to come here.

Toronto might be able to persuade him to come here., But, I will be very surprised if he comes here.

From Twitter..... from OHL Insiders.com

Can 100% confirm IceDogs picked Liljegren to keep him away from London. Source tells me Knights are actually furious. #OHL #ImportDraft

OHL Insiders is suggesting that Niagara picked the Leafs draft pick only because they could not get anyone else.
Does this make sense?

Makes more sense than them taking him just to keep him away from London IMO

So we pick the highest we've ever picked in the import draft...and decide to choose a guy who will probably never come here...does this make sense for our team in the long run?...other then supposedly pissing of London...not that there is anything wrong with that...lol

Because of our close proximity to Toronto, the Maple Leafs Management Group may try to talk his agent into persuading him to come here so they can keep close tabs on his development. If he decides not to come here then to me, whether it ticks London off or not, it is a waste of a pick and I am sure there are lots of other skilled players that would have jumped at the chance to come to the OHL.

Default Leaf 1st rounder Liljagren nabbed by NIA?

If this is true, the Liljagren pick might be the greatest Dogs draft pick ever.
A Leaf pick that the TSN analysts were saying may well be the steal of the draft. Having said that, even if all this does is steal a player LDN wanted it's still worth it. I read on Twitter that many OHL teams are quietly applauding this move(assuming it does go through). This would be a huge upgrade on D for the Dogs! 🐶

If what is true? They took him he's not going to play here so it was a waste IMO even if it kept London from owning his rights
