There maybe a few a mistakes in the Eastern Conference rosters, but this will give you some idea of the 96s going out97s NHL drafted surplus of 97s (OA - minus 3) who will have to be moved – and perhaps some NHL drafted 98s who most likely will return but if they have a great camp you never know (e.g., Micheal McLeod)!

Perhaps, this will help you gauge the strength of the individual teams in the East – and how the current Ice Dog roster matches up.

My wish today is still that the staff bring in 2 over-age defense men that would serve two purposes.
That being to help our young d-corp get better and to show the remainder of the team mates how things to be done at this level. The same way the Mr. Brack did last season by showing leadership.

Any other suggestions out there?

I am expecting way more than a mediocre year from this team.
We finished 8th last season and I predicted a 5th place finish this year and maybe if the stars align, a 4th place finish.
Last year's team was very young. This season's goal is to get better than last season and hopefully, all of the one game goals that they lost last season could turn into win.
The 2017-2018 season is my go for it year.
But, that is just me though.

I think they finish around 4th or 5th but they should be good enough to give any team in the east a scare in the playoffs with their depth and solid goaltending. Need a few guys to take their games to a new level. Thomas, Maksimov, Jones, Phillip, Machala and Castleman are guys I'm expecting to step up. Hopefully Johnny Corneil will continue to find the net like he did in the second half last year.

I'd rather they bring in one defensemen and one forward as OA.

If you bring in two OA d that really takes away ice time from a developing defensemen who will be here when the OA are long gone. You don't gain experience riding the pines.

2 OA D out of 7 roster D = 28.5%
2 OA F out of 14 roster F = 14.2%

There's more ice time to distribute amongst the forwards than amongst the defense

I'd love to see them being in an OA forward that can score ... but of course which team wouldn't, and at what cost!?

I agree with you Strohs on one forward and one d-man over-agers.
But, if I may, having two shutdown type d-men would help the team in the standings and might help Jr's first year on this site anyway
Vince Dunn played in Thorold his first year and got a lot, lot of ice time and that did not hurt him.
I would rather see a talented young defense man log a ton of ice in Junior B instead of being the 6th d-man or even worst spend most of the season in the press box.
Either way, it's all good at the end of the day as long as they bring in two players, (as long as the cost is not overwhelming.

I wouldnt say we expect mediocrity.. but most of us on here are realistic in our expectation with these kids... imho if they finish any better than 4th in the east it would.be miraculous... not knowing what we have for a roster I say they finish 4th on the season and take a second round exit.

D77, that sounds about right to me. I'm sure we'd all be thrilled with a round-1 playoff win, and then we throw the dice in the second round. Now, if the Dogs go out and hit a home run in terms of an overager, all the better!
