I think Machala is better than most of you believe. He is ranked for the NHL draft, is an alternative captain on the Czech U18 team and has 1 goal and 1 asst so far in the tournament. No he is not a superstar but he is pretty solid for a 17 year old.

I really like Machala prior to his leaving Niagara for the tournament that he participated in and apparently had a good tournament.
I did not see the same player after he returned to St. Catharines.
I wonder if there was an injury that he had to play through.

I don't mind him as a player.

However is he worth the $ it costs to have him here...is he really that much better than another Ontario born kid could be ... on a contending team he wouldn't be taking up an import spot ...

Believe me he's far from the worst import we've ever had. In fact I'd say he's slightly better than what we usually get in the import draft.

I'd be shocked if he was drafted by an NHL club this year.

Curious to know (and too lazy to look) what is his draft ranking ?

Interesting to see that the Ice Dogs promoted Mark Seidel to Director of Player Evaluation and Recruitment. With Seidel's hockey contacts and those of our head scout Roger MacLeod the future looks bright. I am sure they will get much better imports as well as getting the players we draft to report. Great move by Joey Burke to build up the talent in the organization

2018 DRAFT IMPORT PROSPECT
1 Andre Svechnikov RW (Muskegon USHL): Big talented winger
2 Rasmus Dahlin D Frolunda (SHL): A difference maker with top-end skill.
4 Filip Zadina LW Parpubice (Cze): Fast, can shoot and has a high-end motor.

According to Brendan Ross (Director of Scouting – thescout.ca),

“Agents basically run the import draft. So a lot of times it's tough for teams to even confirm players’ intentions. They're reaching out to a lot of people to gather tough-to-obtain information.
Seems that most:
1. Pick through the NHL drafted players.
2. Take a shot at someone who has shown some level of interest in playing in the CHL.”

The draft is 40 minutes away.
Will Niagara pick a forward or a defense man?
Your thoughts.....

Sportsnet's Jeff Marek tweeted yesterday that being as this player was the 1st round pick by Toronto last weekend, he might be picked by the London Knights at #49.

I replied to Mr. Marek that an OHL team should pick him and that if he does not report, the team could trade his rights to London for an arm, leg and anything else that they could get ...

I never heard back from Mr. Marek.

Low and behold, it was our Ice Dogs that picked him.

I hope that the Swede reports in August.
