Default OAs - Once a Dog. Always a Dog.

Once a Dog. Always a Dog.

Ever wonder how important or the impact of being an IceDog has on these players? Or how much they recognize the support from the best fans in the OHL means to them? Just listen (or read) what graduated players say about their experience as a Niagara IceDog – not just our most recent graduates, but listen to players from the past too. Some of those similar experiences have been shared on the Rod Mawhood Show: Dougie Hamilton, Andrew Agozzino, Luca Caputi, Mark Visentin, Vince Dunn, Bredan Perlini, Alex Nedeljkovic,...the list goes on.

Their words and message speaks for itself.

Messages from Ivan Lodnia, Elijah Roberts, and Oliver Castleman.

Here's the Lodnia interview, didn't realize he was so well so spoken.

Some really good stuff on the organization here in Niagara:

Fond memories of Niagara
By Bill Potrecz - March 23, 2020

https://www.bpsportsniagara.com/fond...es-of-niagara/

“Coming to the rink every day, I always knew I would be learning something new or getting better when I walked out the doors,” he said. “They worked so hard off the ice and on the ice to develop you into young men and get you ready for the real world if hockey doesn’t work out.”

Castleman said he felt like the IceDogs were his second family. “They make you feel like you were their own kids,” he said. “He was at the rink for such long hours — all the coaches were like that. We were so lucky. “(Uncle NiceDawg ), Bill, Sr. and Denise (Burke), they took me in with open arms and taught us so many life lessons that can’t be taught anywhere else. We’re so lucky to have that second family at the rink.”

“I remember coming down the year before after I was drafted and they were playing in the playoffs and the barn was sold out and so loud. “You could always rely on it being sold out.” Castleman loved the fan support. “I’m from Ottawa and it’s big city and Niagara, you have people from Welland and Grimsby and Lincoln — it doesn’t matter where. The people will come and watch. They love their hockey and they are passionate about it.”

Thanks for providing the full quote, obviously they edited it online .

I only spoke to him once when I picked up my tickets his first year. I complimented him on his play during the preseason and offered my opinion that he was going to make a difference to the team. He was very unassuming and modest but he shook my hand just the same and said he planned on working hard; I think he kept his word. I am sure as he gained notoriety as a player, many other fans shook his hand or clapped him on the back over the years. Clearly an underdog through most of his tenure with the team I was happy to lend my fan support.

Elijah Roberts (Bill Potrecz - March 24, 2020)
https://www.bpsportsniagara.com/robe...nders-what-if/

Roberts feels the fan support the IceDogs receive is another plus. “Coming from Kitchener, they had a ton of fans. When I came to Niagara I figured that it would be a little quieter, but it was just as loud and sometimes louder. There were a lot of kids screaming at the top of their lungs and older people getting season tickets regardless of whether the team was in first or last place. Every night playing in front of those fans made it extra special.”

Roberts said of all the people he came into contact with in Niagara, he will miss locker room attendant Greg McPherson the most. “Coming to the rink, he just put a smile on my face. You can lose 8-0 and I would be pretty upset and not want to talk to anyone and then you would see Greg and kind of smile right away and he was always giving me hugs. I’m definitely going to miss that.”

Ivan Lodnia (Bill Potrecz - March 26, 2020)
https://www.bpsportsniagara.com/they...my-own-family/

Lodnia loved his time in Niagara. “The last two years I’ve been with this organization was the best time of my life,” he said. “With no disrespect to anyone else, I wish I was drafted by these guys. The way they treated me from the get-go was first class. From the staff in the office to the owners, they treated me like my own family.”
