Bell Media has been slashing original content (people and programs) since they took over. If they can market the same shows on several stations at once, they save money. Anything local or unique depends on copious advertisers and/or sponsors.

I suspect that this is the reason

Rogers also has cut a lot of their higher paid talent on the Fan and they play a lot more syndicated US talk shows (unlistenable) later in the evenings and on weekends than they ever used to in the past.

I just read on Twitter in a message from the OHL that the exhibition game between Guelph and Missy has been postponed and no reason given. I am thinking that this may occasionally happen in the short future time frame.

Most of the advertisers on the Icedogs broadcasts were local businesses. Most of those local businesses have been hit hard by Covid so I can see it being difficult to get sponsors for the broadcast this year. They may have wanted the Icedogs to pay for the broadcasts, but of course the Icedogs are hurting too.

I also wonder if the Icedogs cancelled their advertising package with the radio stations since there is no sense in advertising if they can only allow 1000 fans into the arena. That may have also contributed to CKTB cancelling the broadcasts.

It’s all speculation at this point but one thing is certain, most businesses are struggling financially right now, which hurts businesses like radio and the Icedogs who rely on advertisers.

Hopefully if they can’t find another radio station to pick up the broadcasts, they at least have an audio broadcast online. I remember the Icedogs had that before when they didn’t have radio and I believe the Oshawa Generals have an internet station for the play by play of the games.
