If I understand him correctly that is when he learned of the closed building status. His words, we can no longer hold open practices. He stated liability, theft and safety as the issues given him by SMG. Finally it was not security it was two SMG employees, One seems to be a boos (shirt and tie) the other a regular worker.
There's their favorite word again "safety". Funny, they didn't care about peoples "safety" last night at the Hip concert. If they did, there wouldn't have been two inches of slush on the bridges going in. We literally slipped, slided and stood in slush the entire length of the Rankin bridge.

Seems like in not just St.Catharines barring the public from Ice Dog Practice talked to a friend who went to Windsor a couple years back and they could not watch the Spitfires practice also maybe all teams in the OHL do this.

According to Wade it is SMG not the Dogs.

I would accept that a team wouldn’t want unknown people hanging around. The whole Spy vs. Spy line of thought, to protect the family secrets.
But it comes down to something very basic… very simple. Communication !
What made Bulldog upset? Surprise and the embarrassment of being asked to leave.
- Not being allowed to park at the facility
- Entering without search.
- Reentering without conflict
- Bringing a granola bar or juice box in.
- Etc Etc Etc.
ALL reasonable changes that would have been accepted right away if communicated prior.
Again, the shock and surprise…. No body likes it… (even on birthdays!)(well maybe)

Now if we had some marketing and business savvy people in the front office, they could seize an opportunity.
As season ticket holders we all carry a certain level of pride in the feeling of membership. So far to think that we carry a level of status.?
The ownership could easily play on small things like this “closed door” rule, by allowing Season ticket Holders access.
Again, simple and it costs them nothing. Plus it gives the STH some token feeling of status.

( and by status I mean feeling special )

It doesn't seem realistic that as the primary tenant the IceDogs couldn't establish who they wanted on the ice (or in the stands) during practice. I am wondering aloud what would happen if I went to the Dogs office through their door and asked if I could watch the practice? I would show ID, sign in, wear a tag, sit where told and try not to be anything other than a fan. What do you think they'd say??

Perhaps we should conspire for two people to show up and get kicked out . 10 minutes later 2 people show up and get kicked out . 10 minutes later .... and so on , so on. That would keep their staff busy

I was told that I must leave as the meridian centre is a "closed facility" When I objected he said you can't just walk into the ACC in Toronto. I said this isn't the ACC and my tax $s are paying for this place. All my arguing was to no avail and I was escorted to the door by these two gentlemen. I was all over my displeasure with how the Meridian was being managed but this just might be the straw that broke my back. Will give myself a cooling down period before I make a decision. Anyway the reason for this rant is to save anyone else who read my open practice post the embarrassment of being escorted from OUR building.Great job Noakes.
The Meridian Center is a PUBLIC FACILITY - **NO** different than the Jack or any other public arena or public building. Bigger yes, but that's it.

I would email city council (go to st. catharines web site to get email addresses) and get their explanation.

There is absolutely no reason why the public should be disallowed entry into any public building (unless there is a paid event going on of course - which there wasn't).
