I am retired and have always enjoyed taking in a practice. In the first few years there were always 5 -10 of us there every day. It has dropped off dramatically though. Most times now I am the only one there. I have considered going to the practices a way of keeping up with the team and watching them work on different aspects of the game. It also made me feel more a part of the whole team concept thing. I am not nor trying to be part of the team, just filling in the long days of winter. I understand that SMG is trying to protect the city investment but I also feel it is a sad day now that this has been taken away from the fans. I don't know how many arenas SMG manages but I think they do Missy and Kingston, both of which are suffering attendance wise. Coincidence ? Good suggestion though, I will contact the dogs office on Monday and see if there is a pass or something I could get.

Let us know how you make out! I can understand SMG not wanting to throw open the doors wide to everyone, but I think if you checked in and out with the IceDogs and signed a waiver or showed ID they would have nothing to lose and another loyal fan for life. I would be very disappointed if the IceDogs turned you away.

Really? Someone tell that to SMG.

This is the point people have wrong. It isn't property of the residents. It is the property of the City of St. Catharines. This isn't a public building it is a business that is publicly funded. There is a big difference. Your taxes go to it......so what, your taxes pay for a lot of things that you have no claim to. The city pools are paid for by taxes and they have an hours of operation (just like the Meridian Centre), you can't just go there when you want, you can't just wonder around inside where you want. LCBO is publicly funded, try walking around in there.
I've seen people talk about how open the Jack was, but do you remember how many times the IceDogs had stuff stolen at Gatecliff?

Yeah, speaking on the concert situation at the MC.
They did full pat-downs/violated people. It sickens me to no end that we have to deal with this b.s

LMFAO

This is routine for most any concert almost anywhere nowadays. This has nothing to do with SMG.

I go see bands in clubs like Rapids Theatre and The Town Ballroom, they have pat downs and bag checks. These are privately owned clubs. Go see a concert at ACC or Skydome etc I can pretty much guarantee you get patted down and have bags checked. Go to Disney World. You don't get patted down but they have HUGE bag check stations . Nice thing about Disney though is u can bring in your own food and non alcoholic drinks.

That's a tad dramatic. I have been to many concert venues both in the States and Canada and I have been patted down at nearly all of them. At some of the outdoor events they have a drop barrel to surrender contraband prior to a search and people actually had plans to sneak in such items as knives, booze, drugs and even a steel pipe. Pat down searches are a reality these days.

The bottom line is, there are two sets of rules. One for the IceDogs and one for everyone else. Why is it that anyone off the street is allowed to pop in and watch any user group at night (which by the way was exactly when the IceDogs were robbed, not during the day), yet a few random fans can't come in during business hours to watch the dogs practice? SMG does everything in their power to make things difficult for IceDog fans. Check with anyone you know in Mississauga or Kingston. SMG will not be happy until our attendance is as abysmal as those two cities. And who will benefit then? The only way to make change is to contact the Mayor and let him know how SMG treats the very people who funded this great facility!

I am sure SMG has no effect on the crowds in Kingston which are not that bad around 3'900 a game or in Missy the Steelheads are just a bad team. Has I said my friend could not watch the Spits practice when he visited Windsor and their arena is run by Global Spectrum

They absolutely have an effect on attendance. Look at how many people on this site alone want to either give up their season tickets or stop coming to the occasional game (if they are not season ticket holders) because of the rules that SMG enforce. The accessible fans can't get to the washrooms, the smokers can't go outside for a smoke, it' freezing out yet we can't be allowed into the facility early. These are just a few complaints that people on this site alone have mentioned. But the fact of the matter is, why do they allow spectators in to watch other user groups but not the IceDogs? If it' a rule then make it consistent for everyone.
