Before yesterday game, Billy Burke was hopeful his young squad would learn from Thursday’s loss. You hope you can turn around quickly,” he said. “I still believe in the guys 100%. I’d bet my house we’ll come back with a better effort.”
Well, the Ice Dogs did learn! They responded with a big OT win in Oshawa to improve their record to 4-2 – and Billy keeps his house!

Round 2 of the K-9 Cup between the Ice Dogs and the Bulldogs goes tonight at the First Ontario Centre (7:00pm). The winner of the series receives the Canine Trophy and a $1,000 cheque to go to the charity of their choice.

NIAGARA ICE DOGS:
Akil Thomas has at least a point in each of the first five games and leads the team in scoring with 9 points – only 2 points behind the OHL leader Boris Katchouk (SSM). Ben Jones is close behind with 8 points after scoring a pair of goals last night.

Stephen Dhillon is 8th in GAA 2.54, 10th in SAV% .912 and 10th in SHOTS (126) – that’s a good sign!

• Rookies Bruder and Martin have scored their first OHL goals in back to back nights – so obviously it’s Tomasino turn tonight.

Ben Jones has been a beast in the faceoff circle – leading the OHL with a 67.6% success rate (minimum 65 draws). Last year, Jones won 50.2% of the draws.

• The Ice Dogs have spent more time in the penalty box to start the season than any other team in the OHL at 15.2 minutes per game.

Kirill Maksimov serving his 2nd game of a 2 game suspension, will be sharing nachos with Zach Shankar who is serving game 3 of his 4 game suspension.

HAMILTON BULLDOGS:
• Preseason prognosticators thought scoring would be Hamilton's strength and goaltending their weakness, however, 4 games into the season, the Bulldogs have scored the fewest goals (8) and GK Kaden Fulcher has been outstanding (1.92 GAA 0.935 SAV%) – earning himself an ELC with Detroit! Kyle Keyser (ELC Boston)! Could Dhillon be next?

• Central Scouting gave Hamilton Bulldogs F Connor Roberts a "C" rating (a possible fourth, fifth or sixth round selection).

• Leading the Bulldogs offensively in the early part of the season are: Will Bitten 4pts, Isaac Nurse 3 pts, Matthew Strome 3pts and Arthur Kaliyev 3pts.

• The Bulldogs' power play percentage is 0% after four games – they’re 0-for-16 going into tonight’s game. However, in stark contrast, their PK has been very good – operating at nearly 92%.

Bulldogs injury list is a long one and that is good news for the Ice Dogs.
• D Jack Hanley (concussion) – courtesy of check to the head by Colts F Ben Hawerchuk is out.
• F Matt Strome (left shoulder). The team listed his status as day to day and Head coach John Gruden is hoping Strome would be back in the lineup for Monday’s game in Sarnia.
• D Ben Gleason (wrist). Expected to be cleared to play against Sarnia Monday
• F Mackenzie Entwistle (ribs). Expected back in time for next weekend.

…and finally, David Bell is doing his part, potential Bulldog overage F Matt Luff is officially on the opening night roster of the Ontario Reigns.

Go Dogs!

My bride and I will be attending the Chris de Burgh concert at the Meridian Centre this evening.
We will be calling home many times during the concert for an update. I have an old style flip top phone with the Internet disabled. I am old school LOL

Anyway, as written above, I too hope that they keep the pedal to the metal as we do not want a repeat of the Sudbury game.
Go Dogs Go!

Nice comeback win for the boys. 2 big road wins after the lackluster home game on Thursday.
