Default Yes to OHL means No to USNTDP?

So, what do you think about this:
Jason Robertson, the Dogs’ new ‘hired gun’, has been declared ineligible for Team USA in this year’s upcoming World Juniors. His infraction? Playing in the OHL. I don’t know if this is a new thing or not, but my first instinct is to say: ‘Well, that’s just ridiculous! How dare they?’
But then I think to myself: ‘how would I feel about a potential Team Canada candidate playing in the NCAA? Would I welcome a Canadian player training in the US, and should he necessarily get a spot ahead of a CHLer? In some ways I almost think if an American-born player declares(having lived/been playing in Canada) that he wants to play for Canada, would I refuse him a Canadian sweater, and force him to play for the US? I don’t know, particularly if there are quality Canadian players who could fill his skates. I think it was in the 1984 Canada Cup, or was it the ‘88 Olympics, that Brett Hull sort of ‘defected’ from Canada to the US, and never played for Canada again.

Where did you read this, as it would be a first. There have been many U.S. players from the OHL represent the U.S. at the world juniors. Also, there are usually a few Canadians playing in the NCAA invited to camp with as good a shot as any to make the team. Robertson is on their camp roster, and he's not the only OHL player.

Ted Lehman and Jamie Alton on the broadcast tonight were talking about it as if it were a ‘fait accompli’, as if it had already been decided. I thought it a bit surprising, and a bit harsh if it does come to pass.
You’d think Jason Robertson wouldn’t have too much trouble making the US squad, given the season he’s already had.

Two factors to consider, Lehman and Alton ride the bus with the team; politics is a factor in the World Juniors.

A perfect example of understanding the source. Those two are in their own world. They describe a game totally different than what is happening on the ice and every penalty against the Ice Dogs is a bad call.
