This is incorrect . A player can be sent back at any time. Even after a tenth NHL game. What happens after 9 games is that the NHL teams have burned one year of 'control' over the players rights, with regards to NHL free agency.

The player can be sent back from NHL to OHL at this point, they just rarely are.

And it is 10 NHL games , not AHL or ECHL games .

This is correct. As an Oilers fan I can vouch for it. We sent Draisaitl back to junior after 37 nhl games last year (smart move too).

Actually it was a prick move by the Oilers... they waited until right after the World Juniors to send him back. They could have let him play for his country against the best junior players in the world a week or two earlier. Instead they waited just long enough to screw him out of that opportunity.

I wonder if Draisaitl agrees with that assessment? We will never know. But to play devil's advocate, perhaps Draisaitl may have preferred (maybe even requested) if he was going to be sent back anyways, to stay in the NHL until after the WJC. Still paid his NHL salary all that time and not going to participate in a tournament that he has no chance of winning anyways?

Makes ya think ...

Agreed though he was far from NHL ready and didn't belong there last year and he's off to a good start so in hindsight it looked like the right move ...

Just back from the ID practice. new guy is definitively bigger than Aagaard and looked faster. They had him on a line with Maletta and Perlini today. He was wearing #21 so I stopped in the office on my way out and said I guess the CV returning rumours are dead as you have given his # away. We all laughed and they said if he does come back he will get his number.

He is playing under #9 with Missouri so if he returned he could always choose another - think of the jersey sales!!

Thanks for the scouting report. I think this was a good trade for the Dogs. Hopefully Jensys comes in and doesn't do his best Tom Kuhnackl impersonation. The price to acquire him was low too IMHO worth the risk...

His upside is REALLY high for getting to unload an OA and a problem child who wanted out anyway... I'm looking forward to seeing Jenys play tomorrow.. Hope he gets some time with Ho-Sang at some point... He's a big, fast kid who isn't afraid to go to the net... Exactly the prescription we've been looking for to cure our ills...

Assuming he works out...

Excited for this new chapter
