In my opinion, there is a difference in a player's value to the team wishing to trade a player than trading a player because they have to. The team can also refuse to trade the player, if they wish.
Just my two cents worth here

13 days till training camp..

Despite not having a great record of predicting things that are going to happen, OHLinsiders actually got this hiring of Ted Dent right. Good on them

Ted Dent has been named as Associate Coach, whose role on the team is very different from that of an assistant coach. An associate coach works in tandem and not independent of each other. An associate coach is similar to a co-coach setup. In hiring Dent as an associate, Billy will really be able to lean on Ted Dent’s experience to make all the right decisions.

Good hire – and the right title for Ted Dent.

Former AHL bench boss joins IceDogs as associate coach
By Bernd Franke, Postmedia News

http://www.stcatharinesstandard.ca/2...ssociate-coach

A man who as a minor league coach is credited with playing a “major role” in the development of players who went on to become Stanley Cup champions is coming home to Canada.

As “associate coach,” Dent, 47, will be newly hired head coach of Billy Burke’s No. 1 assistant on the Ontario Hockey League team’s bench. Dent will be running the defence and the penalty kill as well as being a “great mentor,” IceDogs team owner Bill Burke said.

Dent’s three Stanley Cup rings and longevity in the AHL speaks volumes about his “outstanding ability as a coach” as well as his character, Bill Burke said.
