I was thinking about that last week. Bet we get a shortened season.

Will the first month of the season be played without fans?

I don't see a scenario where they play games without fans. Most teams struggle financially as it is.

The Federal government support would help teams.

I don't expect there will be crowds until the vaccine starts to get rolled out. So maybe not until the new year. If they have fast testing for players and team officials and game officials then they can play to empty arenas in the meantime. With a shortened schedule. I hope that TSN and Sportsnet can come up with a plan to broadcast games.

It costs around $2.5 million or more to operate an OHL team. The majority of revenue is from ticket sales, concession sales and advertising/sponsorship. If they play without fans, teams will have little revenue while still having to pay the majority of their $2.5 million expenses. There is no way the majority of teams could afford to play without fans. This isn’t the NHL where teams make millions from TV broadcasts.

The government seems to have no apprehension to spend money at this point in time. I bet they will throw some money at the OHL and some other pro or semi pro sports. Also to various types of entertainment that will keep people occupied at home in front of a screen.

I doubt there will be government money for anything non-essential post-pandemic. The economy will be in the toilet, and many businesses will have failed leading to a hefty spike in unemployment. Hockey won't be on the priority list.
