PART IV: PROJECTED/POSSIBLE LINE UP

For this upcoming season, OAs A.Beraldo, A.Bruder and J.Doherty (along with D.Betts, L.Cato and C.Butler, who also dropped the gloves) would serve as valuable veterans on essentially a younger team. Last year, they proved, on numerous occasions, a willingness to step up and fight to protect their younger teammates. Additional toughness will come from Mason Howard, who had to be amoung the league leaders for hits and blocked shots this season?

Those IceDogs in particular showed a lot of toughness last season – and being a year older and stronger we can expect more of the same, which makes them extremely valuable.

Projected/Possible Lineup: To be updated after the OHL Draft, Import Draft, trades, signings, training camp and pre-season:

FORWARDS
1 *03 IMPORT - *04 P.FIMIS - 02 BUTLER
2 02 SNOW - 02 UBERTI - 03 AGOSTINELLI

Unsigned Prospects:
02 Halliday, Stephen LW (6.03 / 220)
03 Brueck, Riley LW (6.00 / 165)
03 Eichler, Cole RW (6.00 / 190)

DEFENSEMEN
03 ENRIGHT - 00 BERALDO
02 CHANTON - 03 CATO
01 HOWARD - 01 BETTS - *04 A.LEONARD

02 Gucciardi, David LD (6.01 / 180)
03 Procious, Tyler RD (5.10 / 175)
03 Mistry, Ethan LD (5.09 / 165)

PART VI: TEAM/PLAYER PROFILES

TEAM TOUGHNESS 2020-2021

OA - Berarldo (3x), OA - Bruder (2x), OA - Doherty (2x), 01 Betts (2x), 02 Butler (1x), 03 Cato (2x) and 03 Enright (1x) all engaged in fights. It takes a lot of courage to drop your gloves against someone who may be tougher than you, so respect to the 7 who did it. Surprisingly, M.Howard did not fight this year – instead, threw a lot of bone jarring hits and blocked an insane number of shots.

Cam Butler: Left hook by Butler… Down goes Regula!

Dakota Betts: Great tilt (one without commentary, one with… Ed not impressed with the refs).

04 Leonard, Alec RD, (5.11 / 165) GTHL's Mississauga Reps (GTHL)
PP PROFILE: https://prospectpipeline.ca/2019/11/...eport-profile/
<>Highest Rankings: #3 hockeyprospect.com (CAN) // #9 (CAN/USA) // #9 Ontario Draft Hub // #19 thescout.ca

prospectpipeline.com
Leonard stands as one of the top defenders eligible for the 2020 OHL Draft. Of great size, strength and two-way abilities, Leonard has the ability to influence the outcome of any given game with a startling level of consistency. In the near future, expect Leonard to develop into a top-pairing defenceman at the OHL-level and beyond — and one capable of stabilizing his team’s effort at both ends of the ice. Leonard’s physical abilities — amongst his other talents — combine to make him one of the more intriguing players eligible for the upcoming 2020 OHL Entry Draft.

hockeyprospect.com
Alec is a smooth skating, right-handed, puck-moving defensemen who can explode up and down the ice with ease. Tends to be very aggressive on forechecks, knowing that he can turn and get back into position. His change of direction is seamless, and his quick feet allow him to get to his top speed effortlessly or walk the offensive zone blue line. Defensively, he uses his high-end backwards skating to stay stride for stride while angling players in order to take away their options. Makes smart passes both in the offensive zone and in breakout scenarios showcasing his feel for the game and overall playmaking skills. Alec also displays a willingness to compete in the physical side of the game and is not afraid of going into the boards to battle for possession. He was one of the most physical players in the entire GTHL this season, consistently delivering heavy hits on opponents. Overall, Alec has extremely high skating ability and compete level.

thescout.ca
Elite skating and dynamic playmaking abilities make Alec Leonard one of the best offensive minded two-way D-men in the draft. Exceptional edgework and lateral movement make him extremely mobile and able to move the puck through center ice to gain the offensive zone with ease. He loves to have the puck on his stick and is constantly looking to thread needles and jump in on the rush to push the tempo of the game. Isn’t afraid to finish his checks and really separates opponents from the puck. Plays an aggressive gap and possesses a very active stick in one on one situations. Confidently and efficiently quarterbacked the PP using good vision and offensive instincts to make quality shot selections and set up teammates for high danger scoring opportunities. Leonard should develop into a dangerous offensive defenseman in years to come.

Ed, Steve and Al Commentary: IceDogs 3 rookie defenseman (Enright, Cato and Chanton) 2019-2020 season:
https://youtu.be/nqGv0WemkSY

03 Isaac Enright RD (6.00 / 170 lbs)
<>2019 Rd.1 #17 overall (Niagara IceDogs)
<>2019 Team Ontario Canada Winter Games
<>2020 Canada U17 World Hockey Championships

OHL Prospects @BrockOtten (Feb 2020): Similar to Del Mastro, Enright has been better than the stat line indicates, playing a consistent role for the rebuilding IceDogs. Smart, two-way defender with high end offensive potential. He definitely has a chance to be one of the better defenders in this OHL age group.

thescout.ca Prospect Level 1 (Mar 2019): The “franchise defenseman” tag has also been used in worthy description of Enright. Effortless four-way mobility. Long, smooth skating strides - losses no momentum changing directions. Clean zone exit passes. Shows very little panic when pressured. Tremendous distributor of the puck.

Prospect Pipeline (Feb 2019): Isaac Enright checks all the boxes: impressive sense, vision intelligence, and decision making, effortless skating and intriguing offensive upside. His mind is one of his greatest assets, processes plays instantaneously and makes wise decisions. His skating ability is off the charts. Enright can reach top speeds in a matter of a few strides - able to stop, start, and change directions in a flash. Enright can fire effective two-line passes, or rush the puck through all three zones with confidence. Within Enright’s nearly complete game which could use some perfecting, it would likely be in his strength and physicality. Enright projects very favourably to the OHL level, as a mobile, two-way defenceman. Enright has displayed tremendous potential.

03 Landon Cato RD (6.02 / 205)
<>Drafted 2019, Rd.3 #46 overall (Niagara IceDogs)
<>2019 Invite USA Hockey NTDP Evaluation Camp U16 (Top 52 USA Born Players)
<>2018 Invite USA Hockey National Player Development U15

Cato completed his MM season with several impressive scouting reports, which included an outstanding 2018 GTHL showcase game. His play earned him a prospectspipeline.com feature in-depth scouting reports, as one of the premiere players in the upcoming draft.

https://prospectpipeline.ca/2019/02/...rofile-report/

Prospect Pipeline (Feb 2019): Potential to develop into a top-four defenseman. With this great size, strong skating and competitiveness, Cato will have no trouble adapting to the physical demands of the next-level.

thescout.ca Prospect Level 1-2 (Mar 2019): Cato possesses size and strength. A pest who makes thunderous hits in the corners and along the boards. He sees the ice well and makes excellent passes. Cato’s strengths are: smooth skater, long powerful strides, mobility, hard shot, compete level and his big hits.

2019-2020 Season: Cato started the season well, but separated his shoulder in late November (missed the next 5 weeks) and subsequently regained his form over the last month – playing with confidence and aggression, even using his large frame (6.02 / 205) to engage in a couple of fights.

Defense is the most difficult position to learn “on the job” for a 16 year old - and that’s only heightened on a rebuilding team. Regardless, consistent playing time and confidence gained playing in the OHL, only makes young players better the following year. Defenceman take a few seasons to establish the player they could potentially develop into, so 2020-2021 is an important year for Landon Cato - looking forward to the next step in his development.

03 Anthony Agostinelli RW/C (6.00 / 165)
<>Drafted 2019, Rd.8 #159 overall by Niagara IceDogs in the OHL Priority Selection
<>2019 invited USA Hockey’s NTDP Evaluation Camp (Top 52 2003 USA Born Players)

NCAA commitments affect the OHL Draft. The round players are drafted is not an accurate indication of their ranking amoung their peers. Prior to the draft, US born Anthony Agostinelli was believed to be heading to the NCAA. Several OHL draft website had AA pegged for the 3rd round. Here are some of AA’s scouting reports prior to the 2019 OHL draft.

RECRUITING: Total Pro Evaluation Spring Showcase: Top ‘03 Prospects
North Andover, Mass. — The top 2003-born players in the United States took part in the Total Pro Evaluation Spring Showcase. The following notes and evaluations are broken down by A++, A+, A and B prospects:
‘A+’ Forwards: Anthony Agostinelli: He had good size and was tough to knock off pucks. He had slick hands for a player of his size and was able to create offense as a set-up guy and as a finisher.

PROSPECTS: Top 12 uncommitted ’03s at USA Hockey’s Select 15 Player Development Camp
AMHERST, N.Y. — With USA Hockey’s Select 15 Player Development Camp underway in Amherst, N.Y., college coaches, junior scouts, and NHLPA agents have converged on the Greater Buffalo area to watch the top 2003-born prospects in the United States:
#6. Anthony Agostinelli: The Rochester, N.Y., native has a fantastic offensive skill set. His speed and hands allow him to control pucks and create chances. His one downside is he sometimes tries to do too much and doesn’t move the puck quick enough.

2018 USA Hockey Select 15 Development Camp Report: One of the top players. He is a dynamic looking skater with separation speed. Accelerates quickly and turns on the jets to get up into any rush. Can snap a great quick release shot off a speed rush.

After this highlight reel OT game winner in the finals (World U-15 Championship) went viral, AA’s draft interest increased substantially.

02 Tucker Tynan G (6.01 / 165)
<>Drafted 2019, Rd.10 #192 overall (Niagara IceDogs)

Prior to suffering the devastating injury, 02 Tucker Tynan was statistically the best draft eligible goalie amoung those in his OHL draft class: 02 Tristen Lennox, 02 Joe Vrbetic and 02 Will Cranley. Tynan had worked his way up to a possible 4th round selection in the 2020 NHL Draft.

Tynan played 23 games, finished with a 3.80 GAA, .910 SAV% and 834 SOG (38.5 shots/per game). His .910 SAV% remained the highest of the four goalies. The other three all finished below .900 SAV%.

A return to form in 2020-2021, should see him land back on the NHL draft boards for the 2021 NHL Draft.

@thehockeywriters (Nov. 2019):
#115 Tucker Tynan (G, USA, Niagara OHL) Projected 4th Round.
NOTE: Following the injury Tucker Tynan was removed from the THW draft board.

ohlprospects @ Brockotten: (Jan. 2020) Midseason Top 50 2020 NHL Entry Draft
#38 In the midst of an outstanding rookie season and draft year, it was a real shame to see what happened to Tucker Tynan. He was just starting to gain steam as a draft prospect. Prior to the injury, he had one of the better save percentages in the league despite seeing among the most rubber and the most high level scoring chances on a rebuilding Niagara te am. He was stealing games for the Dogs. His athleticism is outstanding. His post to post movement is elite, as is his recovery ability. The acrobatic, highlight save was routine for him. But his composure for a rookie was also impressive. Even after giving up a bad goal, or giving up several goals, his play rarely wavered which speaks volumes to his mental toughness. This kid has the potential to be one of the best goaltenders in the OHL.

ohlprospects @ Brockotten: (Oct. 2019) Preliminary Top 50 2020 NHL Entry Draft
#35 Tucker Tynan has been remarkable so far this year for a rebuilding IceDogs team. He's seen the most shots of any goalie in the league and it isn't really close, yet his save percentage is .920. He has decent size at 6'1. Quick movements laterally that allow him to challenge shooters and play aggressively. Makes a lot of acrobatic saves. Was tempted to put him higher, but want to see this level of play sustained.

02 Giancarlo Chanton LD (6.01 / 175) IMPORT – Switzerland
https://www.eliteprospects.com/playe...ncarlo-chanton
Prospect Eligible: 2021 NHL Entry Draft
<>Drafted 2019 Rd.1 #47 overall by Niagara IceDogs (CHL Import Draft)
<>Member 2019 Switzerland U18 Hlinka Gretzky Cup

VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: Swiss vs Canada - U18 (#5 Chanton)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9KMLACqF8s&t=55s

2019-2020 Season: Giancarlo Chanton quietly had a successful first season, making a smooth transition from Swiss to Canadian hockey. Along with some rookie mistakes, Chanton showcased his exceptional backward skating and use of angles (1v1), as one of his strengths. Chanton’s play has not gone completely unnoticed by online NHL scouting websites. Still too early, but on two extended 2021 rankings, Chanton’s name appears as an NHL draft prospect. On one list, Chanton appears in the top 150 and the other #61.

In October 2019, Chanton was listed as one of the Top 5 U-20 Swiss defenseman.
5 (02) Giancarlo Chanton (2021 NHL Draft)
4 (00) Janis Jerome Moser
3 (00) Nico Gross (NHL – NYR)
2 (02) Noah Delemont (2020 NHL Draft)
1 (00) Tim Berni (NHL - CLB)

As a 16 year old, Chanton was the last defenseman cut from the 2020 Swiss World junior team. Almost assured of making the 2021 Swiss Jr National team, as a 17 year old, Chanton will gain valuable experience and development playing against the world's best 19 year olds heading into his first NHL draft.

The strong finish to the season, should give Chanton confidence to prepare during the off-season and get himself in the best physical condition, for what could be a big year for the Swiss / IceDogs defenseman.

02 Cameron Butler RW (6.04 / 202)
<>Drafted 2018, Rd.2 #27 overall by Peterborough Petes in the OHL Priority Selection
POINT TOTAL: 56GP – 18G – 14A – 32 Pts

Cameron Butler: Heading Into A Draft Year (Perfect Skating Hockey Training August 2019)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8cahL6xIug

After a successful rookies season with the Petes, Cameron Butler, a 6’4”, 202lbs RW, NHL Central Scouting "Players to Watch (Nov 2019)" listed Butler as a possible 4th-6th rd pick in the 2020 NHL Draft. In the mid-season ranking (Jan 2020), NHL Central Scouting placed Cameron Butler #100 amoung North American Skaters. Sporting News Draft Analyst midseason Top-300 has Butler ranked #169 and The Hockey Writers mid-season ranking placed him #171 (NA, European & Goalies).

The term "high ceiling" is scouts-talk for prospects with big potential. Peterborough Petes coach Rob Wilson, “That ceiling, is a pro career if he continues to work and progress. "He's a big body (6.04 / 202 lbs) who can skate and has a great shot," Wilson said. "When he plays with an edge, along with his speed, size and accuracy of his shot, he's a very dangerous player."

prospectpipeline.com (Aug 2019): This prospects is glowing with NHL potential heading into the 2020 NHL Draft year. Cam Butler quickly became a goal scoring threat in his rookie campaign with the Petes and could very well score 25+ in his second season in Peterborough.

ohlprospects @ Brock Otten (Aug 2019): Pre-season Top 30 for the 2020 NHL Entry Draft
#18 Cameron Butler: A 6.04 power winger with speed and great potential as a goal scorer. Even as a 16 year old, defenders had a difficult time stopping him in transition. He also has a terrific and explosive wrist shot that he can unleash while in full stride. As the season progressed, he began to assert himself physically without the puck too. As someone who can drive the net and use his speed and power combination, how good can he be when the game slows down? I didn't see a player with terrific vision last year, nor someone with dynamic puck carrying ability. But as he gains confidence, this could change/improve. Raw but explosive player with a very high ceiling as it stands now.

hockeyprospect.com (Sept 2019): Massive goal scoring potential, already has a lot of confidence shooting the puck while in stride. Uses a long, powerful strides that makes him effective taking the puck wide and physical too. Playmaking ability and play recognition needs work, but this kid has been impressive with his athleticism and size package.

ohlprospects @ Brock Otten (Jan 2020) Midseason Top 50 for the 2020 NHL Entry Draft
#26 Cameron Butler skates well for a big kid (6'4, 200lbs). Seems like he has one solid explosion into the offensive end every game, which flashes his potential. When he gets that head of steam going across the blueline, defenders have a difficult time stopping him. Butler is also a physical player who will throw his body around and make his presence felt. Probably not much of a difference in the potential of Butler and a guy like Cuylle, yet one will cost you a much earlier selection at this point.

02 Jake Uberti RW (6.02 / 180)
<>Drafted 2018, Rd.4 #72 overall by Niagara IceDogs in the OHL Priority Selection
<>Central Scouting: Mid-Season Ranking #200 (N.A. Skaters)
<>Hockey Writers: Mid-Season Ranking #275 (N.A., European and Goalies).
POINT TOTAL: 56GP – 17G – 16A – 33 Pts

Uberti Making Strides (Bill Potrecz – Jan. 29, 2020)
https://www.bpsportsniagara.com/uberti-making-strides/
“I’m definitely getting more comfortable playing my game and I think I’ll be able to get more comfortable as the season goes on and I progress into next year. It’s just getting used to playing more minutes and playing against the top six on a more consistent basis.” Burke said he has seen flashes of the player he ultimately believes Uberti will become. “We’re seeing him more engaged and that’s when he’s at his best, when he’s skating, when he’s physical and into the game,” Burke said. “He’s got some great tools and sometimes he doesn’t even realize how strong and fast and good he actually is.”

Ed and Steve discussing Jake Uberti development:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQQOmX7fiI8

After being promoted to 2nd line centre, for the 2nd half of the season, Jake Uberti responded by surpassing last year’s goal total (2G - 13 pts) emphatically, with a 56GP - 17G - 33 pts season. In the OHL, these types of increases and developmental gains are a regular occurrence. Top 2020 NHL Draft Prospects: 01 Jack Quinn 12G to 52G; 02 Tyson Foerster 10G to 36G.
Colts’ homegrown product Foerster reflects on developmental gains
https://ontariohockeyleague.com/arti...opmental-gains
…heading into his sophomore stint with the Barrie Colts, he decided he’d aim to double his rookie outcome of 10 goals and 13 helpers. “People didn’t expect me to play the way I’ve been playing,” he told Sportsnet’s Sam Cosentino last month. He’s stronger, improving on his skating, and has been playing with a wealth of newfound confidence. It’s no wonder he blew past his 50 point goal (36G – 80Pts).

Jake Uberti goes end to end to earn the OHL “Play of the Night”.
A glimpse of that future. Of his 17 goals, this was probably Uberti’s best – speed and fearless going to the net.

02 Cameron Peters C / LW (6.02 /180)
<>Drafted 2018, Rd.2 #29 overall by North Bay Battalion in the OHL Priority Selection

Cameron Peters was one of the standout players on a star-studded 2018 Toronto Marlboros team. They featured five players selected in Rd 1 of the OHL Draft: Jamie Drysdale, William Cuylle, Lleyton Moore, Riley Piercey, and Reid Valade, Cam Peters Rd 2, Stephen Halliday Rd 3.

Draft Day Video Profile - Cam Peters:
https://ontariohockeyleague.com/vide...cameron-peters

OHL PROSPECTS PRE-DRAFT SCOUTING REPORT
Cameron Peters, C, Toronto Marlboros
"Cam Peters has one of the highest ceilings in the draft and oozes NHL potential. Peters is one of the most powerful centres in the draft possessing an attractive mix of size, power, speed and puck-skill making him hard to contain. Peters has the ability to step into the OHL and immediately make an impact."

Unfortunately, Cam Peters suffered a season ending injury on Feb. 1st. Upon his arrival, Peters was given the chance to play meaningful minutes (2nd line, PK and PP) and showing the potential of a highly touted 2018 2nd rd selection that scouts and coaches talked about. With an opportunity to now play regularly, as an 18, 19 and 20 year old, Peters has the talent to develop into a top 6 forward (or at the very least a solid top 9) and be a key contributor to a future championship run.
