He is still young, what is another year in the OHL going to do, on a go-for-it team.
Worse case scenario, if he doesn't get drafted this year, he goes to university in 2019.
At his young age, he has mega time to still go to university and work his whole life.
Waiting one more year to go university, to me is no big deal.
Very disappointed. Don't get it
I donít get it but I respect his decision especially if he doesnít see himself playing hockey in the future

I totally respect Willy's decision about choosing school in the fall and wish him all the best in what ever the future has in store for him.
Thank you Willy for the three years.

The Ice Dogs own his OHL playing rights even if he in University. If the Knights feel that he could help them, then it would cost them.
Otherwise, he will play in London but for the University team.

Been hearing this was coming for awhile now but hoping it wasn't true or he would have a change of heart. Leaves a hole on the back end. I think he's giving up on hockey a little early. IMO he can play pro if he continues to develop.

Joey said on Rod's show that all four OA's would be back. Now with Lochead and Langdon going to school they're down to two. BUT, in the above article, it says they would look at adding one on defence and one at forward. Seems as though that means Schaefer is not in the plans either.

72 hours after saying all 4 OA's would be here, they're down to one?

I suspect he has done the math himself and come up with a best-case scenario of a short AHL tenure (not unlike Jordan Maletta). Being injured for part of a season is also very sobering. Too often athletes have all of their eggs in the NHL basket and after a few short years in the AHL they recognize that the short term gains of playing hockey are not leading to a sustainable career long term.

I think Lochead's performance was underrated and that perhaps had an NHL club showed an interest in him, his decision would have been different. I am not disappointed in him at all, but I will miss his style of play and wish him the best.

Plans change on a daily basis especially with younger men who donít see a future in hockey like Lochead and Langdon they arenít down to one yet they still have two and even if all came to camp two would be gone quick IMO we could have 4 again if that rule that was being talked about last year comes in about OA goalies not counting

To pass up his one and only year of OHL eligibility left (for a potential top team) to start school one year earluer is very puzzling to say the least. I completely understand and respect the fact if Lochead has put a greater importance on a career beyond hockey but there is nothing preventing him from doing both this year (like Maletta did at Brock in his OA year). Lochead could have started to take courses at Brock - or enrol in online course at Western and play OHL hockey. Pretty much what he is going to be do at Western - going to school and playing CIS hockey? On the surface, I’m confused by this decision.
