It was just this sense of ‘yep, this is what the typical IceDogs game is going to be like this season..’
This is a rebuild, folks. This is the way it’s going to be for prob the next two seasons. And this is WITH Akil Thomas and Phil Tomasino. What, do you think the Dogs will get better once those two are traded? This is also assuming Burke and Co. have enough sense in their head to trade the two of them.
Here we are, talking about ‘the team will be this and that once the trades are made’. I have heard nothing, no indication that the Dogs even have any intention of trading either of them. Now, I think it obviously needs to happen, as the Dogs’ cupboard is bare and bone-dry. But do the Burkes see things the same way? Or would they say ‘You know what we need? We need to spend even more draft picks to get this team into the playoffs!’ And then it’ll be Pietrangelo 2.0 . Thomas and Tomasino go to NHL camps next September and don’t return.
They traded Pietrangelo to Barrie and got Ryan Strome.

The two said players are playing like they both want to stay in Niagara. No intensity at all.

Where they can get spoiled and pampered. No pressure to perform. One of them would make a really good figure skater though.

Why would they do that? I mean it worked so you always mess with success, right?

This coaching staff inability to identify line/player combinations that work and keep them together for more than few games - has been concerning to me for the last few years.

You and I were saying all summer that this season would be rough.

Hunter and Roberts are more middle of the pack D-men and after them their D just gets younger and more inexperienced.

At forward they have no depth and they don’t even have a top 6, more like a top 4. Dhoherty plays on the top 2 lines but would be a 3rd liner on any other team. Uberti, De Simone, Agostinelli and I believe even Snow has been slotted into the top 2 lines at times but no one seems to fit.

The only thing that has gone better than I expected is goaltending due to Tucker’s outstanding play. He has actually stollen a few extra points for the Icedogs.

We remind our athletes - players win games and coaches lose them. In the case of the IceDogs, mostly last year and even this year (although expected in year one of a rebuild) this is less a case about personnel and more about the coaches – how they adapt, adjust, correct and fix what is not working.

Not sure if it was just a coincidence, but a few years ago the d-zone coverage, breakouts, offensive structure and the PK were noticeably better when Ted Dent was an associate coach – perhaps BB (in his rookie year) leaned on Dent more heavily to coach the team.

I keep coming back to this name each year. Ted Nolan.

Not sure if Nolan has ever been considered or approached by the IceDogs for the position of HC. He has an extensive track record of success at every level of hockey. Nolan was last employed as a coach in 2018 – and I assume he still lives in the Niagara Region. Nolan is the perfect fit to lead the IceDogs in this rebuild (and was even more so last year). He brings to the IceDogs (and the OHL) unmatched coaching credibility.

Not that I disagree with you, but I think I will coach the IceDogs before Ted Nolan will.
