I can't believe the City of Hamilton is screwing over their main tenant. Hope they resolve it.

Are they doing major renovations to the arena? I know there was talk they were.

The Bulldogs are upset that they will be kicked out of their arena for 2 years while the renovations take place. Originally they thought they could continue to play as the renovations are being done but now that is not possible. However, they will likely have the nicest OHL rink when the renovations are complete.

Maybe they could play at the Meridian so we would have one hockey team worth watching. I’d gladly switch my season tickets over to the Hamilton games.

Wow, the mayor of Brantford is really pushing for an OHL team for Brantford. Let me clarify, a permanent OHL team for Brantford.

Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis confirmed on Friday that the Hamilton Bulldogs have contacted the city as the team prepares to find a home while its arena – FirstOntario Centre – undergoes renovations during the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons……

Davis said the CAO’s office and parks staff are also involved in talks……

“ This would be an economic shot in the arm for us but I think, more importantly, it would give the community a real psychological boost,” said the mayor.…..

“We would be given an opportunity, which we have not had in (40) years, to demonstrate that we can support an OHL team. That’s the great opportunity in all of this.”

“I think our community is ready for it and I think our community can do it.”

When the Alexanders left, unemployment in Brantford was soaring as the farm equipment business that was so vital to the city collapsed…… “We are an entirely different community. I think we can support an OHL team and I look forward to an opportunity for our community to demonstrate that.”

He added that, even if the Bulldogs don’t come, the city will learn from the experience.

“The process will tell us what it is we need to do to the civic centre, what has to be done, to make it a suitable home, even temporarily, for an OHL team,” he said.

“I think having that information and knowledge will be valuable.”
