Kevin Bahl would also be a good choice... a 16yr old, 6'5 225lb defender would look REALLY good anchoring our blueline for a few years... If he's as good as he's looked in the few games I've seen him in.

Unfortunately Ottawa is in the same boat as us, rebuilding, so they're not likely in the market for any of our veterans.

Hey Stinky, I researched your question from another thread for you

Ice Dog Management! Host the 2019 Memorial Cup???

As the Ice Dogs get stronger over the next couple of the year, it does not appear as if the EAST will be getting much stronger.

Looking at the players moving on next year and the following year from the other 9 Eastern Conference teams. It would not be a bad idea to keep Paquette around – see how thing play out. And next year, when he is amoung the league leaders – make the decision to trade him.

Take a look at the players each team in the EAST will be losing next year – and in particular over the next two years in comparison to the Ice Dogs (losing only 3 players), it’s pretty clear that next year will be interesting – but 2018-2019 will be even more so!

RED: Overage gone next year
GREEN: 97 NHL drafted most likely in the AHL next year.
BLACK: Likely returning next year, if not traded

NOTE: I have also included NHL drafted 98s who will not be back as overagers in 2018-2019 in BLUE

Good job with your research Blacksox. Well done and thank you.
I believe that the Ice Dogs will move a number of players, but really close to the trade deadline as the price will go up by then. Apparently it is a buyer's market right now.

I believe that they will move Mantha, Haydon, Knott and Paquette at the deadline for bodies and picks to start the run for the cup in two years. Corneil might go as well as non of the above will be around when the time comes to go for it again

If it were just a factor of build and rebuild I would agree with you. There is more to an OHL franchise than just hockey - it is a business. Losing badly game after game will chase fans away. The organization will have to balance selling assets to recoup picks, versus staying marketable.

Trades are not always about draft picks. Many times, there are bodies that move along with picks.

Am I the only one who doesn't see the point in trading Paquette this season unless he asks for a deal (or we get an unreal offer)?

He won't be in the NHL next year and could very well be a 40-50 goal for us next season. It will be good to have someone who can carry the load while the kids develop and help us win some games... at least until the deadline when they're more comfortable to take over.
