Default Ice Dogs vs Guelph Saturday evening.

I was at the game on Saturday and saw the horrible check to the head that Howard laid on the Guelph kid. He got five minutes and a game misconduct but I was wondering if that is an automatic suspension as well. Can someone with much more hockey knowledge than me please advise. Thanks

I couldn’t really see if Howard made contact with the head but if the replay shows he did make contact with the head, he will get a lengthy suspension.

I was at the game as well and watched the hit on slow motion as I taped the game.
Actually to all fairness to Howard it was a clean hit.

From what I have seen so far, I think this may be a tough season for the IceDogs as they are so young but I think in 2 years they are going to have a great team.

I think we all forget how lame the OHL is when it comes to thunderous hits.

I can?t tell from the terrible video feed whether he made head contact or not.

Branch has a heavy trigger finger . My guess is a ten game suspension .

Seems to be his go to move

A few takeaways from the weekend:

Players not in the lineup this weekend games: Cam Butler, Cam Peters, Isaac Enright, Anthony Agostinelli (played Friday), Alec Leonard, Ethan Sims (played Saturday) Tucker Tynan ( and Danil Gushchin )

Josh Rosenzweig was fantastic! Add the recent impressive performances of Constanzo and Tynan, do they look to trade one?

Dionicio is the real deal. Uberti displaying another gear to his game. Castle and Roobroeck played well. Brice Cooke was more involved Friday than Saturday.

As the preseason games move along, Juan Copeland is starting to show what he is capable of. Nice pass on the Fimis' goal..,

Dakota Betts is one of the best OA dman in the Eastern Conference. IceDogs need an OA forward.

Alex Graham has only played a limited number of shifts in each game?

Mason Howard’s hit was called "shoulder to chest" by the broadcast crew. I've posted it on our forum for IceDog fans to review. Howard has been hitting everyone – OHL players should be on alert. Best hitter and shot blocker in the OHL.

It was a clean hit. The blood was from his head hitting the ice.

Rosie was good and a bit lucky, lots of flopping on the goal mouth scrambles where he was lucky the puck stayed out. He also made a bunch of outstanding saves.

Dionicio was the best player on the ice IMO.

Graham didn’t get nearly enough ice to make any real observations.

Howard is going to hurt a lot of guys this year (not intentionally), he’s simply a brick wall. Crazy strong. But, his skating has not improved.

Not seeing the same thing you are with Uberti. Yes he looks comfortable out there, as he should, he’s a veteran now. But, he didn’t do much of anything last night. I expect him to be one of the best, if not the best player on the team. It just didn’t show last night.

I hope they find a spot for Cooke on the roster. I thought he did everything right last night.

De Simone can be replaced by one of the young kids if that’s the way he’s going to play.

Cato was ok, but still chases hits.

With the 4 veterans on the backend and Tynan between the pipes, they should be ok defensively. I think they’ll have a hard time scoring goals, especially early though.

Great observations ff51. I'm hoping the IceDogs are exploring an OA F to balance the young with old up front. Perhaps, Butler, Peters, Agostinelli (maybe even Gushchin) will be part of that equation, but an OA with some leadership qualities wouldnt hurt this promsing young group of forwards to develop and mature.

I can't figure out why, in his first two exhibition games, Graham is not getting a regular shift. Conditioning issue? Potential trade to make room for Gushchin ?

I don’t disagree with your comments on Uberti. I probably worded my observation incorrectly. He wasn’t overly noticeable Friday but on Saturday there was a point midway through the game that Uberti decided to raise the level of his game - using his speed to beat defenders wide, out muscling and leaping over players along the boards to make a play and going hard to net (ringing it off the cross bar). What I meant to say was Uberti displayed (not displaying) another gear that could make him one of the league’s top players.
