Game Thread Niagara @ Erie - Wednesday, 2018.17.18 – 7:00pm

GAME 10 / 68 vs ERIE

Believe me this game is Yuge, Bigly! We're the "good guys," and they're the "bad guys. Right?
My plan is make the Erie Otters great again. You’ll see! It will be tremendous!

NOT FAKE NEWS
<> IceDogs collected 5 of 6 points, including 3 points in 19.5 hours.
<> When the walls come tumblin' down…
http://ontariohockeyleague.com/video...8-niag-5-sby-1
- If you missed it Phil Tomasino with a great goal and Akil Thomas with an amazing assist
<> Maksimov and Jones point streak halted at 8.
<> Christian Sbaraglia wore an IceDogs’ jersey for the first time.
<> Future stars Lleyton Moore and Stephen Halliday received invites to Hockey Canada U-17 Development Camp in July.

YOUR TV,
Wednesday’s game will be televised on YourTV or can be purchased at OHL LIVE ($6.99)

OUR TEAM
Wednesday is the start of the IceDogs’ second 3 in 3 week. In their first attempt at the trifecta, they collected 3 of a possible 6 points.

Offensively, the IceDogs are led by Akil Thomas (16 pts) and Krill Maksimov (14 pts). Billy Constantinou leads all IceDog defenseman with 7 points in 9 games.

Thomas is 7th in league scoring. He is only 3 points behind the league leader Austen Keating (OTT) and has played 2 less games. It’s possible that Thomas could be the OHL Scoring Leader heading into Thursday night’s game.

Thomas is on pace to record 98 assists (club record 73 – Ryan Strome) and Maksimov is on pace to score 68 goals this season (club record 51 – Luca Caputi).

Daniel Bukac leads the IceDogs in +/- with a +8. Bukac has not been a minus in any of the first 9 games of the season.

Dhillon, Stephen NIAG 6 - 3.30 0.894
Incze, Colton NIAG 4 - 3.04 0.871

ICE DOGS: PP ranked 9th - PK ranked 17th

AND THE OTTER TEAM.
Erie enters the game with only 3 points in 8 games (1-6-1). That is good enough to put them in 19th place - 3 points ahead of Flint . However, their win/loss record does not accurately represent how well they have been playing of late. With Ottawa in town Thursday, be aware of the “Trap Game”.

Offensively, Erie is led by LW OA Kyle Maksimovich (13 pts) and Gera Poddubnyi (9 pts). On defense, Erie features future OHL star Jamie Drysdale (#4 Overall Pick).

OHL TRIVIA: Who was the last player selected (#301) in the 2016 OHL Priority Draft?
<>Murphy, Daniel ER 6 3.51 0.868
Battaglia, Noah ER 3 6.08 0.808

ERIE: PP ranked 10th – PK ranked 16th

As luck would have it, this game marks the return of Danial Singer from his 8 game suspension.

Singer has already played one game for Erie. The suspension was based on the IceDogs schedule. When the Dogs played their 8th game Saturday night, it made Singer eligible to play Sunday afternoon for Erie (which he did).

Another interesting factoid: Niagara is third in league attendance behind Kitchener and the green monster. Niagara has an average this year of 4638 while Erie (in 9th place) is the the last team to top 3K with 3138 per game.

When the IceDogs don’t take anyone lightly is when they will win a championship.

INJURY UPDATE

Ham skated Tuesday and could play Wednesday in Erie while Hunter also practised but is still aways away from returning. Roberts is expected back next week.

I am guessing 6-1 IceDogs and when Singer attempts to set up shop in front of our net he gets a quick reminder that he is undersized and underweight.

I don't think that Singer will be a weak link in the Erie team...he definitely knows how to score and we better not take him too lightly or he will come back to bite us in the ass. We should be strong enough to beat this Erie team but we will need to be focused and put in an honest effort. Go Dogs Go.

Erie has a habit of using undersized forwards to their advantage (and the IceDog's dismay). I have remarked over the years that Niagara needs to stop treating these entities as if they were untouchable.
