I think the future of the CHL will include various forms of compensation options including a salary, educational reimbursement or a hybrid of the two.
Sounds like an easy fix to me.

When the player signs his contract, give him the option.

A) Scholarship.
B) Min wage.

Pick one.

More likely:
A) Full scholarship and an allowance (current model)
B) Partial limited scholarship and limited salary
C) Full salary no scholarship
D) Enhanced salary subject to a team cap

I can easily see the formation of a CHL Players Association. I bet they bargain for better than that. Wait until billets want a bigger pay too!

Not enough, they will eat you out of house and home. But they do it because they care about the team and kid. I know some of them still have relationships with former players.

We know that from personal experience from many years ago, but, not in St. Catharines, they eat a lot of food, a real lot and most likely not quite enough money.

The billet families are to be commended for doing what they do as not too many families would bring a young man that they do not even know to their children and home.

We had no problems at all in the mid 70's but, they eat a lot. All good.

The stipend they receive doesn't even cover the cost of food in most cases, to say nothing of laundry and umm "housekeeping"

I have friends in that role and it is an accurate statement. That said, if you are undertaking the role for financial gain you have missed the whole point of the experience and you are going to be disappointed.

Spoke with a billet tonight and although they didn't give me an exact number it's around $500 a month for food and laundry and basic parenting. Some even have two players.

That seems to me to be common sense.

So don't expect that to happen.

Lol
