From how I read it, the "third-party" refers to the law firm that did the investigation. The league requested the investigation and that just means the league didn't do the investigation themselves, they hired an outside, independent, third party to do the investigation. My guess would be they received credible information (which likely then would've been the player, his agent or family member) and then hired an outside firm to do the investigation.

These fines follow a League-requested third-party investigation by the law firm of Lax O’Sullivan Lisus Gottlieb LLP. This investigation found that the Club violated certain League player recruitment policies.

I would agree with you that there is no chance they make the playoffs next season. They hardly have anyone returning. However, I don’t think they will trade Thomas or Tomasino until January as they should get back the other teams 1st round player plus picks. Actually for Tomasino, we should see the largest return for a player in IceDogs history. He will be a 1st or 2nd round NHL pick and will be only 18 years old. Think about what we gave up for Robertson and Studnicka and they’re 19 years olds. Tomasino will get us so much more.

Our beloved team got a lot of ink yesterday after that announcement in the morning It hit a lot of newspapers, Sporstnet TV and Sporstnet.ca
No doubt on TSN.
I think it was even mentioned during the CHL game of the week in Halifax.
And this morning, I just saw it mentioned on CP24 news.
The Boards website, Niagara thread as well blew up and even went to a part 2 thread. I had not seen that much action on that thread since being there, Can't sign in but I read some of the stuff.

Completely agree with you. But the sanctions are still being placed against the organization which would lead one to think that it wouldn't be a side deal from a scout or gm. However, I'm not sure the actual details will ever come out, certainly not from the league.
