I don't see what the big deal is, it is probably time to update the rulebook to reflect today's reality. Ok so the players don't get wages, pay for family to travel, give them team cell phone, lease cars for them who cares? Level the playing field and have every player submit there tax forms to an independent auditor every year.

Then they are messing with Revenue Canada and the IRS. I doubt Hunter is too worried about being investigated/punished by the OHL but a federal offense for tax evasion??

I know we are all thinking of playoffs (me included)...but has anyone heard if there has been any reduced sanctions against the dogs for the draft (it usually comes up during playoffs, which has always been rediculous to me)...anyone heard what they actually did and are being punished for?...if we lose our 1st pick, do we have any left this year?...Still, all that being said, I am glad we are "all in" this year and hope for a long ride to Halifax!

Nothing has been announced yet and likely won't be until the fall (in terms of the appeal). The only thing I could think of that may occur in the interim is if the IceDogs filed an injunction against the prohibition of drafting this year. If you think about it, they are appealing a penalty that was imposed but prior to the appeal going through they lose the right to draft a first round player which adversely affects the team. If they file an injunction and the court agrees, then they get a first round pick until such time as the appeal is heard. If the team wins the appeal, no harm done. If the league wins the appeal then they can impose it at a subsequent draft.

As for what actually happened, there has been no official answer other than violation of recruitment policies - there has been plenty of speculation and you can read that and make up your own mind.

I doubt they reduce the sanctions .... the penalty already seems lighter than what was initially levied against the Spitfires ...

If they end up appealing, getting the pick this year, and losing next years, we’ll then you can tell that the braintrust of this team is basically clueless when it comes to planning lol


I would think any appeal would have to happen before the draft this year ... if there is any common sense in this league ... not saying there is ...

Generally if you admit an allegation, the accepted sanction is less. Windsor went from $450k to 250. If Niagara's starts there, $100k and one year draft penalty is reasonable.
