If you trusted the head coach and GM and the assistants were just on the sidelines oblivious - that would certainly be a good reason to fire the guy and replace him with people you trust (aka family). You don't need a chequebook to make a promise and as the new GM you can't honor a promise you knew nothing about. Imagine a player graduating from the OHL trying to collect money from a team for a side deal that was made by a former GM. I am betting lots of has-been players try to squeeze bucks out of teams when their NHL dreams don't come true.

Of those “lots of has been players” how many got teams busted? As of today, it’s only been two.

I honesty don’t care if the Dogs were cheating. I’d think you’d have to be pretty naive to not think that every team in the league is doing stuff they shouldn’t in some capacity. I’ve read a few quotes from media types that have said “to get caught, you’d have to be some kind of stupid or you screwed someone over pretty bad”.

I’m wondering which one it was in this case.

To be fair and not speculative. Until we know exactly what happened, it seem pointless to point fingers and make possible false accusations. Without allowing this issue to go through the proper appeal process - all this can be viewed as slander.

You’re never going to know exactly what happened. So far there are 8 pages of speculation, I think there will likely be a lot more to come. The only finger pointing was by Joey Burke when he said that’s why they made the changes after the 2016 season. If that’s not pointing a finger directly at Marty Williamson I don’t know what is.

I agree we will likely never know but Joey is directly involved in this case - so if he is pointing fingers at someone it maybe a clue as to who is directly involved with the violation. He knows a lot more than all of us.

I also recall an interview with Joey Burke or maybe Bill Burke Sr in reference to 2016 whereby he said something along the lines..that he did not like the way the team was being run and changes were needed. Not sure if those concerns were part of today announcement. I remember that comment striking me as harsh.

Burke agreed with Williamson’s read on the meeting.

“It’s a rebuilding cycle, and I just thought that it was time to go in a different direction,” he said.

Burke called it the toughest decision he has ever made in his business career.
