RSJ, I've been tracking that too. Partly a result of injuries but it appears to be an intentional long-term plan to ice one of the younger teams - and playing with only 2 OAs (Howard injured) makes them even younger. To this point, Barrie (6 rookies), Oshawa (5 rookies) and Hamilton (5 rookies).

That was my point exactly Blacksox, very young team and other than Tynan in net, goaltending is a question mark as well. The power play and even regular shifts will take time to gel. Ice Dogs fans will have to be patient as the players learn to survive in this league.

What do we think. Tynan tonight?

Hope we bounce back from that ugly game last night.

Winning teams such as Hamilton do not have 11 rookies in a game. These players will do through the learning process every game and learn by their mistakes. It has been said in the past that our boys will have to learn how to play and survive in this league. To add to that, not being too negative, are the returning players as good as we think or hope they are? Hm....
I guess the frustrating part is this is year 3 of the rebuild, and we are still very much in rebuild mode. In the past, year 3 was when we peaked. Part of that may be due to the pandemic but after our last run, the team was so gutted of young players and picks that everyone knew this was likely going to be a very long rebuild.

As for our returning players, I really don’t expect too much. None of them are NHL drafted and few were picked in the top 3 rounds coming into the OHL.

Reserving judgement on the team until at least the ten game mark and until I get to see at least five games in person.

I am assuming they have had one or two practices? Wouldn't they review plays with each line? So far I haven't seen any passing plays beyond sending the puck to the next closest player wearing the same colour jersey you have. Even at that, when pressured the jersey hasn't seemed to matter. Lots of work to do!

Having seen players like our boys for many years over my coaching carear and not at this level; the staff can go over everything during practices and meetings, but, once the boys hit the ice for the next game, they seem to have forgotten a lot, They get caught up in the game and the speed.
One season, I coached the same team that I have the previous season and during our training camp that late summer, it was like the players had forgotten almost everything thing that they did during the last season. Not kidding. It happens more than we think. End of rant on ancient history. LOL
