I am not sure about this trade. We desperately need to get back 2nd and 3rd round draft picks and or acquire young talented forwards. But instead we gave up a tradable asset for a third or fourth line 19 year old who by some accounts may not have made the Owen Sound roster this season. I would hope that all options were explored and this was the best available.

A friend said that he thought this trade was awful because it will take ice time away from a young player. However I dont agree with that outlook as the Icedogs are so shallow up front that they likely do not have enough young players who can play at the OHL level. If we going to be using one and done players to fill out the roster, I would rather have a 19 year old with some experience rather than a 17 year old rookie.

However this goes back to my argument for trading Tomasino this season as we are so empty of talented young forwards that we need to trade him for a 1st round forward. If we trade him next season it will make our rebuild longer.

Completely agree with you! IceDogs are better off with 19 year olds in the "one and done" role this year!

Best case scenario, the Ice Dogs could have received a 3rd for Phillip, but most likely a 4th.

Instead, the Ice Dogs got a 19 year old player, with OHL experience (and a 6th round pick). Regular playing time, on a rebuilding team, could be exactly what Jackson Doherty needs and if he has a decent year, the Ice Dogs can trade him for a 4th next year or keep Doherty as an OA. The Ice Dogs will have very few 2000 next year.

I doubt any of the Owen Sounds fans even seen or noticed Matt Phillip any more then IceDogs fans noticed Jackson Doherty, in the few games they played each other.

Personally, Im eagerly awaiting for NiceDawg to comment on the Matthew Phillip trade?

To me, this is simply adding a veteran presence to what is going to be a team otherwise completely without any older players. This IceDogs team is going to struggle against more experienced teams on most nights. The experience on the bench, and on the ice is going to be desperately needed.
