Over his career with the IceDogs he ran around 3.00 goals against average and a .905 save percentage. These are facts, you can look them up and they are indelible. The IceDogs leadership group could do the same thing and come to the same conclusions. He is a good OHL goalie, overall you could put him in the top half or even the top third of all OHL goalies. He has never been an elite level goaltender, the stats do not bear that out. Yes, he has had runs where he performed at an elite level and stole a game or even a series, but he was just as likely to give up soft goals or make silly decisions playing the puck, getting out of position, losing his focus, dropping his glove hand early or taking an unnecessary penalty. This isn't picking on Stephen Dhillon, remember - he is a good goaltender, one of the better ones in the league - but he is not among the best.

The IceDogs knew this from the outset as did most objective critics. The organization had an option to replace him with a higher caliber goaltender and they decided not to. It was a conscious choice to keep Stephen Dhillon and add to the offensive side of the ice. Stephen Dhillon performed the way he usually performed, moments of brilliance followed by episodes of frustrating play. He held up his end of the bargain. At times he was better than expected at times he was lacking, but that's how he has always been.

So if you have doubts about goaltending in the playoffs this year, don't blame Stephen Dhillon, it is undeserved. He did his best, he did what he could and I am grateful that he tried as hard as he did. I do wish we had a different goalie, but that isn't his fault - at all.
I don’t think people are blaming Dhillon. They’re blaming the GM for not upgrading Dhillon.

Hope so, that was the essence of my post, but I heard it at the Meridian Centre all year long: "Why isn't Stephen Dhillon better?"

I usually asked them why they weren't taller (or smarter).

Iím not only talking about last night. I am saying if they take dumb penalties to make up for them in trying to score we as a dumb penalty by Dhillon as we saw he can not score to make up for that mistake.

Oshawa scored on both of Maxi's penalties!! Enough said.

He has to learn how other teams are picking on him with great success. BB could not get through to him; it appears

that if he couldn't do it under such important circumstances, he has a lot of work to do.

This is one of the reasons that I think Maksimov could be back in the 'O' next season (probably not here). One has to think that his on ice maturity is a HUGE question mark for Edmonton. I could see him back, and sent to a contender next season. Kid has talent coming out his ears, but realistically, his temper is a real problem.

We're out and Guelph just won 4 in a row to knock out London. I know that was unexpected too. But I'm happy they are out. Wooohooo!

I usually asked them why they weren't taller (or smarter).

I always wondered why you asked me why I wasn’t taller lol

Several of us banged the drum that Dhillon wasn’t going to win it all ... I doubt if the Laura Secord Drum band banged that drum the Burke’s still wouldn’t of heard it ...

Heck, even my wife who goes to like seven or so games a year said to me ‘they aren’t going to win it all with him in net’. .... how could a casual hockey fan come to that conclusion and yet our ‘braintrust’ couldn’t?

We had arguably the best goalie in the league when we lost last time .... unfortunately we ran into basically a 31st NHL team in the Knights that season.

How could they possibly think we were going to win with Stevie D in net? And our conference was STACKED with SOLID goaltending at the top. Can you ever remember a time when three world junior goalies were all in the Eastern conference final four .... 3 world junior caliber goalies and we had an average at best OA goalie ... we were never going to score enough in the playoffs to outscore our average goaltending ...

I seriously hope next time the Burke boys go all in, they build from the net out .... the goals were fun to cheer in the regular season .... but the easy goal scoring dries up in the playoffs .... at most levels of hockey .... guess the Burke boys didn’t realize that either

Great organization ... we aren’t going to win it every year .... I agree ... but one would think in eleven (or is it twelve - I’ve lost count!) we would have at least won one

Good grief Charlie Brown ... we are in trouble with Burke squared running the show ...

Ps. Who will win a championship first ... Marty in Barrie or the Burke tag-team, lol, I know who
my money ISNT on!

*end of rant*

I see him , jones, lodnia and possibly even Robertson back and than traded away.. offensively all great players but none in mind opinion are ready to move on yet. And with them we will recoup some of our picks back
