Just wondering what everyone thinks the Icedogs should do with the trade deadline Jan 10. They could still trade Uberti and Gushchin and Gushchin, being one of the best forwards in the league, should bring us quite a bit.
Looking at the fan operated OHL draft pick database, the Icedogs still have some top end missing draft picks. The Dogs are missing the following picks:
As well, they don't have a lot of extra picks to trade away if they go for a championship run in 2023-24. Last edited by 5 for fighting; 01-07-2022 at 01:51 AM. |

I hope we stick with what we have. Ya, make Gushchin the Captain. I love that idea. He played a great game last night and seems like a team leader.
If we get into the playoffs it would give our younger players valuable experience that will help us in the next two seasons. If we end up in last place and an early exit I can’t see that being beneficial for the youngsters. Giving them a taste of success will be a huge boost to morale.

It boils down to if SJS want Gushin to be traded he will be traded if they want him to stay he will stay. If there is no SJS influence on a Gushin trade then you obviously move him as he likely is not back this year.
Gushin as captain? Hell no he like his not back here next year. I would keep Uberti I think as he will eventually be an OA and I think he would be decent as an OA. We certainly have had FAR worse homegrown OA players suit up for us. I think they essentially have traded everything else with value at this point other than these two. My two cents is that unless you're offered something that blows your doors off... Stand pat. Let these kids who will be here next season build a bond. There hasn't been much "normal" about the last few seasons. Let's let these boys fight for each other, let them scratch and claw with each other, let them find ways to win, and ways to lose together, as a team.
I don't see any value in this team that I would be willing to give up right now. These kids can get themselves into a playoff spot, together as a team. But I would bet on an early exit, if not 4 straight. Sometimes, knowing when your team is where it needs to be, is the hardest thing for a GM to accept. And stop tinkering. With almost every subtraction (and to a lesser extent additions) this team has dealt with this season, the boys are playing a little bit better, as a team. And... For what it's worth, I'd give Betts the "C" (he really has been a heart and soul type player the last 2 seasons, and for the most part, the fans and kids love him), give VanLoon an "A" he seems to be a good addition as an OA forward. Uberti still has some maturity questions, for me, he takes dumb penalties when his blood is up... And frustration often leads to him coughing up the puck. It's not a huge issue, I just think he needs to find a balance, he's had great upside his whole OHL career, and I can't help think that in another system... Well, he might have made Niagara look like geniuses for getting him in the 4th rd. Instead he's been pretty "bog standard", he's a serviceable, OHL, mid/bottom 6 forward. And he will be a "serviceable" captain next season... And hopefully provide some stability to the younger players. |

I have to say I amkinda shocked that they are moving him . . . I mean not that its a bad thing . . . I was fully expecting he and Butler to return as OA next year and IMO that would have been better than what our usual crop of returning OA have been. So who are our OA going to be next year ? I am really beginning to wonder if it is the players asking to be traded . . . Say what you want about Butler and Uberti but they would have been fine OA players next year and one has been traded already, rumour has it that another is about to be traded. From what I can see that leaves us only with Peters as a returning OA next year? Are they planning to go it with hardly any OA next year? This seems like very unusual planning for next year . . .
