Nothing like a major bloodletting when it comes to lighting a fire under the remaining players.
Nice to see the clearing of space for the younger and upcoming players. |

It’s unfortunate but also the reality of rebuilds in the OHL. 01 Mason Howard, 01 AJ Cook, 02 Jonah De Simone, 02 Ethan Sims and 02 Cameron Snow no longer fit into the IceDogs’ long term plans - all these older players could help the IceDogs win a few more games, but at the expense of making the 04s and 05s healthy scratches is counter productive in a rebuild. Hopefully the players departed amicably and have no hard feelings by the team’s decision to change direction this year.
I’d like to see the IceDogs add another OA forward and assign Joey Costanzo to a JrB team if possible. |

The team’s poor record is not all the fault of Billy. Joey has also played a part in this. Last edited by 5 for fighting; 12-03-2021 at 09:55 PM. |

Another point I would add is the IceDogs now only have 7 skaters that remain from the 2019-2020 team. That was suppose to be the first year of our rebuild. But in reality it wasn’t as we didn’t have enough young talent to even begin a rebuild. Only having 2 picks in the first 5 rounds of the 2019 OHL draft wasn’t enough.
Guelph won the OHL title in the 2018-2019 season, the same season as the Icedogs went for it. But Guelph managed to have at least one pick in every round of the 2019 OHL draft while we had missing picks. Why? Guelph had an experienced GM and we had a young inexperienced GM. So now this season Guelph is currently in second place in the Western Conference while the Icedogs are in last place, releasing our older players to give more ice time to our younger players. In reality, we are in year one of our rebuild while Guelph is peaking. The purpose of my post is not to be critical of Joey. He seems to be doing a better job now but I hate when fans try to put the team’s bad record all on Billy. Last edited by 5 for fighting; 12-03-2021 at 10:39 PM. |

This team is young but if the IceDogs play as they did early in the year and the last two games, then competitive .500 hockey is a reasonable expectation? *** Last edited by Blacksox; 12-04-2021 at 12:52 AM. |

A few of these fans just don't read it or quickly forget facts!! I'll repeat it one more time in caps:: IN 2016, MARTY LEFT OUR DRAFT CUPBOARD STRIPPED FOR THE NEXT FIVE DRAFT YEARS!! DESPITE THIS, JB ASSEMBLED A STAR STUDDED TEAM IN 2018-19 |

1) After Marty took the IceDogs to the league championship in 2015-2016, the IceDogs were able to completely restore their draft selections by next season's trade deadline. See this article dated Jan 11, 2017: https://www.toronto.com/sports-story...ay-of-trading/. Here is a quote from Joey - “It was extremely important for our group to not only add draft selections, but to add as many possible in the next four seasons where prior to this season our draft cupboard was completely empty...To be able to add five second-round picks, and two thirds in the past two days, has completely restored our draft selections." Joey had a full selection of draft picks to assemble the 2018-2019 team! 2) Joey traded more away in the 2018-2019 season than Marty traded away in the 2015-2016 season. Marty traded away 13 draft picks, 2 conditional picks and 5 players. However he only traded away one player who was 16 or 17 years old which was 8th round selection Krassey. (see https://www.niagarafallsreview.ca/sp...s-paydirt.html) This allowed the IceDogs to still have a future as they had a competitive rebuild season and peaked just 3 seasons later. Joey traded away a whopping 18 draft picks, 2 conditional picks and 4 players. However, of those 4 players, 3 of them were 16 or 17 years old and all 3 were drafted in the first 3 rounds (Moore, Constantinou and Martin). So Joey traded away both more draft picks and more young players. This is why the IceDogs were so uncompetitive in their first season rebuild and are still rebuilding 3 seasons later. Please stop blaming Marty for the IceDog's roster woes. This is on Joey, who was too overly aggressive in building the 2018-2019 team. But like I said, Joey does seem to be improving and I think the team is now headed in the right direction. Last edited by 5 for fighting; 12-05-2021 at 11:52 PM. |

Read my post carefully, I never blamed Marty - just pointing out that in your post you convienently overlooked the fact that Marty’s last run at a championship was expensive and we started 2016-2017 with a huge deficit - and as you and I have now pointed out Joey has done a great job re-stocking our draft picks (twice now). Please dig a little deeper before you post something that does little to prove your point. Of the 18 draft picks, 4 of them were insignificant picks in the 5th,7th,11th,13th and the 2 conditionals were 5th – one of them got the IceDogs Ivan Lodnia for two seasons. ALSO, Jacob Paquette was immediately flipped after the 2019 playoffs to reacquire 3 of those high picks back: 2nd; 3rd, 3rd (+ 5th). So to recap: Of those 18 - the IceDogs got three back a few months later and 4 of them were later round picks. That brings the “true” cost of that run to 11 picks. Lastly, of the three 16-17 year olds traded by Joey, only 1 (Moore) is still playing in the OHL. Here is Joey Burke complete resume, a few mistakes (every GM has them), but along with drafting some outstanding players, he’s recruited impressive imports and done a real nice job as a buyer and seller. GM: Joey Burke RESUME: Nov. 11, 2017 Traded: Graham Knott, rights to prospect Trent Frederic, and a 7th round pick.
