Niagara IceDogs 2021-22 (Week 10)
Now that the dust has settled on the 2021 edition of The Purge, fans can take stock of what's left of the team. Needless to say our 20th place standing is not likely to improve in the short term. Niagara has 13 points and a 0.310 win percentage. Facing off against two Eastern Conference teams this week (Kingston 2nd, Mississauga 4th), the IceDogs can at least take solace in the fact that our attendance figures are nearly the same as both clubs put together. |

SPOTLIGHT ON…PANO FIMIS
You often hear players described as 200 ft players, but Pano Fimis is truly a 200 ft player. Every single shift, that kid does not cheat the game on that side of the puck. Pano Fimis, C, Niagara (OHL): One to watch for the 2022 draft, Fimis is a well-rounded center in the Brayden Point mould who had a great summer at Canada's under-18 camp. Interesting comparison. Pano Fimis models his game after Jonathon Toews – and the hockey news used the similar Brayden Point. LOOKING BACK and AHEAD The last three games is a snapshot of what IceDog fans can accept from their team: Barrie, Ottawa and NB – excellent hockey in all three games and collected 3 of 6 points. For a young, developing team that was outstanding and fun to watch again. With only 22 players on the current roster, the recent departures of a 01, 01, 02, 02, 02, 02 - combined with the addition of an 04 and an 05 who will be in the net more often now - the IceDogs have a game day average age of 17.63 . When the IceDogs step on the ice, for the foreseeable future, they will be the younger team – it’s possible a few other eastern teams join them post trade deadline though. The last three games were: an OT loss to the powerhouse Colts; an impressive 6-1 win over Ottawa, in perhaps their best game of the season; and after the first period, outplayed the number one team (NB) for the vast majority of the game, until the refs called the game midway through the 3rd. Overall, a stretch of games that definitely saw progression and not regression, but IceDogs fans will be watching closely AGAIN. The roster purge unofficially debut last weekend, to kick-off the festive month of December – the goal now, fix the PP (please tell Butler and Gushchin to switch sides) and: 4W-6L over each 10 game segment. Big COVID outbreak in Kingston area.
Hopefully Kingston leaves town without it and is able to play the games this weekend . Going Saturday night probably my last game to watch until the new year. Hopefully a competitive game . . . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think Shane Wright will be missing the game as I think the players may be arriving at the world juniors camp today
