And we now have 2 imports on the team and won’t be able to use our 11th import pick so that is just a waste.

I guess the moves are good for this year but certainly hurts us beyond this season.

I think the new owner is trying to make an impression but these are not smart moves.

I think they’ll get some of those 12 picks back when they trade Dickinsons rights in August/September (just my opinion) as for the import thing are we sure Dionico is definitely being brought back by the new guys and when it comes to when we’re “going for it” who knows with this guy the original plan was 2 years but that could’ve changed with new ownership

This is my point as well. We have no idea what is actually happening. He may already have the staff hired. He may not.


Todays events might be a clue that his goal is to turn the team around ASAP. That he already owns the team and the official announcement is delayed for some reason that we don't see just yet.

Anyway ... Happy Canada Day. It is nice that we have "something" happening on the Ice Dog front. That makes me happy.

I get that, from a strategic hockey ops standpoint it doesn't make a lot of sense. Now park your smelly hockey equipment at the door for a second and (strohs you too), put your accountant glasses on for a moment. The IceDogs just finished last and their off ice antics made them lose as many fans as their standings. What better way to wake up (redeem yourself to) the average fan than to bring in some big guns in your first year.

As for the coaching staff, we know who isn't here but we have no idea who IS yet. I will reserve judgement to see who he hires and how they do (and hope he is not being the owner, GM, coach, and locker room attendant).

Looking at the fan managed OHL draft database (which is usually pretty accurate), here are the picks we have left in the first 6 rounds:

2023 - two 2nds, 4th, 5th
2024 - 5th, 6th
2025 - 2nd, 4th, 6th
2026 - 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th

If Zito doesn’t play an OA year, we get back a 4th in 2024 and 5th in 2025.

So after today’s trades, our draft cupboard is showing some major holes.

Today’s trades will not make us a contender this season so I really don’t get the strategy behind all these moves.

And just to correct my previous post, it was actually 13 draft picks we gave up today and not 12 picks.
