and should they decide to keep both Makulovich and Aagaard, they will have used up both their Import and Over Age cards all is one shot.

Or use one of the 1st round picks to draft another flyer that may not report and do another deal like Logan Brown. Reality is we probably don't want to carry extra 16 y/o's on a team that is making a run for the Mem Cup unless they are top notch OHL ready talent like a Chychrun or Konecny. Anything less, we are better off with a boat load of draft picks to use at the deadline to plug any holes. The extra first rounder in the 2016 draft can then be used as part of our rebuild.

If all of the stars align; yes we are saying that next year's club may be better than this year's team.
I have read in the past, that next year was always in the plan for the run.
This year could be another confidence builder, and I think that there are a lot of teams that would like to avoid Niagara in the playoffs

Thanks Ice Dogs fans! You definitely provided a lot of great insight into the future of the team! The one name several of you mentioned that caught my interest was Trent Frederic.

He sounds like he could have been a game breaker. So I did some research on him and found this article. I can only assume that this means he is not coming to the OHL anytime soon?

Last I talked to IceDogs management about Frederic they hadn't completely closed the door on him but would consider it an EXTREME longshot

I went back to read the article more closely - and you're right. His verbal commitment to university hockey is with some risk to the Badgers because the Ice Dogs drafted him.

I guess we can hope that Marty can sell him on the fact that the Ice Dogs will be one of the top teams in the CHL next year - and the weekly national exposure would greatly improve his chances of becoming a high NHL draft choice.

It would prove to be a brilliant move by the Ice Dogs if they manage to get him here next year!

Excerpt from the article:

" Rated as one of the top 1998-born players in the country, Frederic has accepted a spot in Ann Arbor to play for the U.S. NTDP the next two seasons before joining the Badgers in 2016. As with any high-end player, there is some risk involved. Frederic was recently selected in the OHL Priority Selection by the Niagara Ice Dogs in the 6th-round. The pick was nothing more than a flier, however, as Frederic would have been a first-round selection if he had serious interest in the league."

...and keep in mind this is taken from a Wisconsin Badger news outlet - which might explain that last line.
