It wouldn't surprise me to see Crowder and Davies in the line-up next year...

I'd be very surprised if Bray Crowder made the team this year unless it's as a forward. Too many guys coming back and Davis is pretty much a lock. There's still Sarris, Wieringa and Schaefer to compete with for a spot. I'd rather see them leave Wierenga, Schaefer and Crowder where they've been playing a get them some minutes as they'll likely be needed the following year and won't see much ice here. |

Not sure if Schaefer meets the "bruising D-man" criteria.

Has anyone heard any updates about Marty's condition. I for one, hope he does come back and manages to finish what the Burkes brought him in to do and that is have a winning Memorial Cup Champion. He has his faults but doesn't everyone. He has always taken his teams into the playoffs regardless of their experience or skill level so that tells me he is doing something right. Go Dogs Go. When is the Import Draft...does anyone have the date?

DISCUSSION QUESTION:
Several Ice Dog fans on the fan forum site have suggested the importance of acquiring a goalie in the off season – so my question is who? The following is a list of goalies available in the 2016 OHL season. YOU BE THE GM: 1. Which goalie do you think is actually available? 2. Is this goalie a significant upgrade (all-star calibre)? 3. Does he fit into the team in terms of his age (ie. over-agers)? 4. What do you think it would take to acquire him? OVER-AGE GOALIE (BOLD-RED) Mackenzie Blackwood (96)- Barrie Devin Williams (95) Erie Daniel Dekoning (96) Erie Alex Nedeljkovic (96) Flint Zack Bowman (97) Flint Tyler Johnson (98) Flint Bradley Van Schubert (97) Guelph Justin Nichols (95) Guelph Charlie Graham (95) Hamilton Lucas Peressini (95) Kingston (Was invited to Detroit’s rookie camp - eligible for the 2015 NHL Entry Draft) Jeremy Helvig (97) Kingston Dawson Carty (96) Kitchener Matthew Greenfield G (95) Kitchener Tyler Parsons (97) London Paul Town (97) London Michael Giugovaz (95) London Spencer Martin (95) Miss (Signed entry level contract with Colorado in 2014) Leif Hertz (97) Miss Cameron Zanussi (96) Jake Smith (95) NB Jake Kment (96) NB Ken Appleby (95) Oshawa Jeremy Brodeur (96) Oshawa Liam Herbst (96) Ottawa Olivier Lafreniere (98) Ottawa Leo Lazarev (97) Ottawa Jack Flinn (95) OS Michael McNiven (97) OS Dylan Wells (98) Petes Matthew Mancina (96) Petes Shayne Battler (98) Sarnia Justin Fazio (97) Sarnia Brandon Halverson (96) SSM Joseph Raaymakers (98) SSM Evan Cormier (97) Saginaw David Ovsjannikov (97) Saginaw Matthew Menna (98) Sudbury Samuel Tanguay (95) Sudbury Troy Timpano (97) Sudbury Brendan Johnston (97) Windsor Alex Fotinos (95) Windsor |

The two most intriguing goalies on this list to me are: Lucas Peressini and Spencer Martin, however…
1. Martin will likely begin his pro career in in 2015-16 – unless Colorado feels that coming off an injury he would be better off playing his overage year in the OHL…possible but not likely. Depending on how well Kingston does early in the year (and what direction they decide to take) will make Peressini available or unavailable in a trade, however, that likely won’t be decided on until later in the season. 2. Both are definitely all-star calibre goalies for sure. 3. Both are over-agers – which at this point would be very difficult for the Ice Dogs to add to their existing roster. 4. If they were to trade for a goalie in the off-season, it would be unfair to keep Brent Moran as a backup, he would likely have to be part of the trade – along with Jack Wieringa D or Bray Crowder D – or if the asking price was higher perhaps Zach Wilkie. A quick glance at the 2016 goalies indicates that those entering their 4th year – or their overage year will be the leagues better goalies. The trend suggests that this could be Brent Moran’s year to move into that elite group of goalies. I like him – so I’ll be cheering for him to do it! So upon further review, I’m going to start the season with Brent Moran and watch him take the next step in his career, if however, Moran is unable to (in this all important year for the Ice Dogs), I would look to be creative at the trade deadline and acquire Lucas Peressini or hope another all-star quality goalie who is not an over-ager actually becomes available. Best case scenario is Moran takes the job and runs with it leaving extra assets to address other areas. Doesn't hurt to give him a shot and if nothing else it might buy them some time to look at potential replacements before making a deal.

Only goalies that make sense are Alex Nedeljkovic and Brandon Halverson. Two highly rated and high-drafted nhl goalies that are not overagers. Nedeljkovic could likely be traded because Flint will still be rebuilding and Halverson could be available since after this year, the Soo will likely start a rebuild/retool as players like Ritchie, DeAngelo, Tolchinsky, Bailey, Nurse, Boland all move on. Plus they probably want more playing time for their rookie goalie.
