Actually, the stats does not show Keyser (2.75) being half a goal better than Dhillon (2.97) in the regular season (0.22).

The save percentages between Dhillon (.909), Keyser (.915) and DiPietro (.911) were relatively close in the regular season, UPL, the unanimous best goalie in the league, had the best save percentage in the OHL (.920).

He didn’t have the best GAA after the second round ...

Silly silly ...

Ya he was fabulous in game 4 ... only allowed seven ... and didn’t have anything to do with the loss in game 5 ... you know the questionable first goal glove side, the bone head trip in the third leading to the GWG, where he overslid on his knees, leaving a pretty wide open side of the net for the GWG ... none of that was on him ........

He certainly didn’t steal us any games in round two ... Keyser did.

My bad not sure why I lumped Keyser in with DiPietro on that ... DiPietro was half a goal better ... huge difference ...

If we strictly adhere to the notion that winning the OHL championship is the only acceptable outcome for a team going for it, there will be 7 OHL GMs who poorly miscalculated their team’s chances at the trade deadline, leaving only 1 astute GM?

The belief amoung several fans is that winning it all is the only reasonable justification for trading or not trading assets – then the IceDogs are not the only team that failed:

So using hindsight ,

<>Sudbury, a team headed in the right direction, should not have traded away picks on Adam Ruzicka, but instead traded OHL superstar UPL to acquire another 02 star to pair up with 02 star Byfield for an even brighter future. They lost in the playoffs – GM miscalculated, so he failed?

<>London wasted assets on Joey Keane and Kevin Hancock. They lost in the playoffs – GM miscalculated, so he failed? Actually, Mark Hunter did miscalculate - the number of cards he had. A strong core and a ton of draft picks to add whoever he wanted .

<>SMM, a very good young team, had an opportunity to add elite talent and picks by trading out-going high-end talent (Morgan Frost, Mac Hollowell, Keeghan Howdeshell, Jordan Sambrook and Matthew Villalta). They elected not to trade and lost in playoffs – GM miscalculated, so he failed?

Soon two more GMs will fail and then another one, until we find out which GM was the brightest of them all - and retain his job for next year.

Stats can be funny creatures...use them responsibly. There many shots to make up a save percentage, and boost it. There are other metrics that can be used to accurately assess individual play.

Interestingly, one who doesn’t have the size NHL teams covet, is drafted and signed, and one who has the size NHL teams nowadays covet, is undrafted and never will be.

One led the league in regular season wins, and one leads the league in playoff wins.

I’ll let you decide who is who ...

DiPierto is a better goalie than Dhillon. No one is arguing that. However, not quite sure why this discussion has veered so far right from my original point. 5 for Fighting mentioned that the IceDogs were the highest scoring team in the league - and I wanted to add that in addition to that, the IceDogs gave up the 3rd fewest goals in the OHL. My bad for mentioning Dhillonís win total - but I simple copied (and did not edit) what I had written in the round 1 post.

The point 5 for Fighting and I were trying to make before it was diverted was that: heading into the playoffs the IceDogs were one of the top offensive and defensive teams - and did have a chance for some success this year. Thatís it!

In all honesty and even in fairness to Dhillon... 58 starts on the season plus all playoff games. One must beleive that fatigue played a big factor in the overall out come of this teams season
