Aggy set an OHL record tonight by scoring 4 goals during tonight's All Star game in Kingston. He was also named the Eastern Conference player of the game.
![]() The East won 17-10 in a typically brutal All Star game. Tickets were 30$, and there was a lot of empty seats. |

Agozzino’s four goals lead East in OHL all-star game
Published On Wed Feb 3 2010 The Canadian Press KINGSTON, ONT.—Niagara IceDogs forward Andrew Agozzino had four goals and an assist as the Eastern Conference extended its Ontario Hockey League all-star winning streak to five games with a 17-10 win over the Western Conference on Wednesday. Forward Cody Lindsay opened the scoring on the power play 8:10 in to the first period to put the Eastern Conference up 1-0. Lindsay, representing the Ottawa 67’s, banged home a rebound when Agozzino took a shot from the slot that was stopped by West goalie Robin Lehner. Nazem Kadri of the London Knights tied the game 1-1 at 12:26. Kadri took a pass from Plymouth Whalers forward AJ Jenks and fired a wrist shot over the blocker of Kingston Frontenac goaltender Tyler Beskorowany. The West added to its lead under a minute and a half later when Erie Otters forward Zack Torquato scored, but the East followed with three straight goals when Lindsay scored his second of the period, followed by Alex Hutchings and Agozzino. The two teams put up seven goals in the second period. Torquato scored and Kitchener Rangers’ Jeremy Morin added two goals of his own to tie the game 5-5 with just under six minutes left in the period. The two teams changed goalies half way through the second and that seemed to spark the Eastern Conference. Matt Hackett gave up goals to Eric O’Dell, Agozzino and Stefan Della Rovere in just one minute and six seconds to give the Eastern Conference an 8-5 lead going in to the third period. The two teams exploded for 14 goals in the final period. Jenks and Torquato had two goals while Jeff Skinner and Eric Wellwood added singles for the Western Conference. The East countered with goals from Devante Smith-Pelly, Ethan Werek, Della Rovere, Lindsay, Pat Daley, Hutchings, Matt Kennedy and two from Agozzino. Agozzino was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Game, while Torquato, whit three goals and two assists, earned the honours for the Western Conference. Adam Graves for the West and Steve Thomas for the East served as honorary captains. |

The beasts of the East
Posted By DOUG GRAHAM, THE WHIG-STANDARD Posted 1 hour ago The East goaltenders beat out the top guns from the West in the Ontario Hockey League All-Star Classic last night at the K-Rock Centre. The Kingston Frontenacs' Tyler Beskorowany made some dazzling saves to hand off a one-goal lead to Chris Carrozzi, who carried through as Team East won its fifth straight All-Star Classic, 17-10, a record for most goals scored. The West was favoured to win because of its top National Hockey League Entry Draft prospects -- of Taylor Hall, Tyler Seguin and Cam Fowler -- and its seven other players from the world junior championship. However, it was Team East's unheralded stars like Niagara Ice Dogs Andrew Agozzino and Barrie Colts' Alex Hutchings who led the way along with the two goaltenders before a crowd of 3,206. The five-foot-nine Agozzino, undrafted to the NHL, was selected Team East's player of the game. He scored four goals and had a five-point game. Zack Torquato of the Erie Otters was Team West's top player. He had two goals and two assists. Hall and Seguin, the top two scorers in the league, were held to a single assist (Hall). "Playing in the East we're always a bit of the underdog against the West. It feels good to go out there and keep the winning streak going," Agozzino said, He and Beskorowany both said the chirping Team West captain Ryan Ellis did Tuesday at the media press conference, when he predicted a win by his squad, didn't fall on deaf ears. "We didn't let anybody know but we took it to heart. We were playing to win," Agozzino said. "It really got to us in the room," said Beskorowany, who made 23 saves in his 32 minutes of play and left with the East up 5-4. "We wanted to prove to him and the entire West team they were wrong. We really thrived on that." Beskorowany said he had a lot more help defensively than he thought. Defencemen Cameron Gaunce and Alex Pietrangelo proved their star status with their play. Each had four assists. "I had a blast out there. All we heard about all week was the West firepower. I didn't hear anything about the East firepower and then we ended up scoring 17 goals," Beskorowany said. His Frontenacs teammate, Ethan Werek, got into the act, scoring once and adding two assists. Agozzino was on a line with Cody Lindsay and Tyler Toffoli, a pair of Ottawa 67's. Lindsay scored three times and the line had 14 points. "Stan (Butler the East coach) is a genius. We had instant chemistry," said Agozzino, who scored a game-winning goal in the Canada-Russia Challenge series earlier this season. "This is definitely up there as one of the greatest moments for me," Agozzino said. It took a few minutes for the players to warm up -- there wasn't a play stoppage until the 5:32 mark -- but the offence on both sides came to life over the final 11 minutes of the first period when the East broke into a 4-2 lead. Beskorowany had the crowd up cheering early with a couple of acrobatic saves on Adam Henrique and Nazem Kadri on a breakaway. Kadri received one of the loudest cheers in the player introductions, along with Greater Kingston minor hockey graduate Hall and Beskorowany, Werek and fellow Frontenac Ethan Werek The top prospect of the Toronto Maple Leafs drew another loud round of approval when he scored the West's first goal on Beskorowany. All-star notes:One of the players of the game last year was Brampton's Cody Hodgson, who had a terrific year. It has been the exact opposite for Hodgson this year. He was injured while at the Detroit Red Wings fall camp and hasn't played a shift this season. There have been some reports he may play this week ... Kingston Front e na c s captain Brian Lashoff was one of three assistant captains for the East squad. Lashoff was paired on defence with Tony DeHart of Oshawa. The Frontenacs' Ethan Werek was at centre between Team Canada left winger Stefan Della Rovere and Barrie teammate Alex Hutchings. Werek had the game's first shot, a save by Robin Lehner. ... The first time the all-star game, then known as the Chrysler Cup, was held in Kingston was in 1981. The Emms Division defeated the Leyden Division, 5-3. Paul Gauthier (Emms) and Terry Crisp (Leyden) were the coaches. ... Since the All-star Classic went to an east-west affair, only two of the 10 games have had fewer than a combined 10 goals. In the 2007 game in Saginaw there were 22 goals scored. Last edited by hockey123; 02-04-2010 at 06:57 AM. |

East takes OHL all-star game, west take skills
By SooToday Staff SooToday.com Thursday, February 04, 2010 ONTARIO HOCKEY LEAGUE ********************** East wins All-Star Classic in record fashion By Aaron Bell Andrew Agozzino has suddenly become a big fan of Stan Butler. Agozzino, the third-year sniper from the Niagara IceDogs, set an OHL All-Star Game record for most goals when he scored four and added an assist to lead the Eastern Conference to a 17-10 win over the Western Conference on Wednesday in Kingston. Agozzino credited Butler - the GM and head coach of the Brampton Battalion and Team East - for putting Agozzino together on a line with Ottawa 67's teammates Tyler Toffoli and Cody Lindsay. "Stan's a genius it looks like," said Agozzino, who bettered the previous all-star record of three goals set by Scott Barney of the Peterborough Petes in 1999 and tied by Hunter Tremblay of the Barrie Colts in 2007, and matched by Cody Hodgson of the Brampton Battalion and Justin DiBenedetto of the Sarnia Sting last season. "There was instant chemistry with us three." The teams also combined to set a new record for the most goals scored in a game. The previous high was 22 goals set in 2007 in Saginaw. "It was a lot of fun," Agozzino said. "I played with a lot of great players out there and got to play on the same line as a couple of special players so it was a lot of fun." Team West captain Ryan Ellis of the Windsor Spitfires predicted that the Western Conference would win the game after losing four straight to the East. Agozzino said that the Eastern Conference squad was determined to extend their winning streak. "Playing in the East - we're a bit of an underdog with the guys in the west always thinking they're better," Agozzino said. "We didn't let anybody know but we took that to heart. We were playing to win." Ethan Werek of the Kingston Frontenacs scored a goal and added a pair of assists in the win and said that it was special to play the game on home ice in the K-Rock Centre. "It was an amazing experience," said Werek, who scored two goals in the Eastern Conference's win in Windsor last year. "Our fans were great and really supported the guys. It was great playing with some really good guys and it was a lot of fun." The East outshot the West 55-50 for the second highest shot total in game history. The teams combined for 109 shots in 2007. Werek said that it was difficult to stay focused with all of the goals being scored. "You just have to remind yourself that you want to compete hard but you don't really want to run anybody over," Werek said. "It was a lot of fun. It's a real skilled game and the fans really got their money's worth tonight." Zack Torquato of the Erie Otters was the Team West player of the game after scoring three goals and adding two assists to tie the single game record for most points in a game along with Agozzino. "Any time you can come to these events, it's a pretty cool experience," said Torquato, who didn't get a point when he played in the All-Star Game as a sophomore in 2007 in Saginaw. "I really wanted to come to Kingston for this event and put on a good show. It was a great experience." Cody Lindsay and Tyler Toffoli of the Ottawa 67's each produced five-point games as did Alex Hutchings and Stefan Della Rovere of the Barrie Colts. Toffoli's five points were all assists to also tie an All-Star Game record for most assists in one game set previously by Dan Tessier of the 67's in 1999 and Eric Lindros of the Oshawa Generals in 1991. With five points, Hutchings has seven career points over three straight All-Star Games as does Colts' defenceman Alex Pietrangelo. Both Hutchings and Pietrangelo match career points records set by Steven Stamkos of the Sarnia Sting (07,08), Justin Papineau of the Belleville Bulls (98,99,00), and former Colt Bryan Little (05,06,07). ********************** West takes OHL skills competition By Aaron Bell John Moore said that the practice - and extra work - was worth it. Moore assaulted his family garage with thousands of slap shots while growing up and on Tuesday, he put up the hardest shot in the OHL Skills Competition and Three-on-Three Game on Tuesday, helping the Western Conference to an 18-15 win over the Eastern Conference. Moore said that he caused so much damage to his garage as a youngster that his parents made him paint it several times. “My garage at home could probably tell the story,” said Moore, who blasted a pair of 98 mile per hour missiles and edged Jacob Muzzin of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and Zack Torquato of the Erie Otters, who both reached 96 miles per hour. “I was always shooting pucks when I was growing up and I still like to do it. I’ve had to repaint it a couple of times already.” Moore also practiced his shot this past summer and said that a friend’s father that is a police officer brought out his radar gun one day and clocked Moore’s blast at 98 miles per hour. “Hopefully I can get it up to triple digits sometime,” Moore said. “No promises but it would be pretty cool.” Jesse Blacker of the Owen Sound Attack won the fastest skater segment with a fast lap time of 15.05 seconds. He completed his lap 2/100ths of a second faster than Alex Hutchings of the Barrie Colts. Devante Smith-Pelly of the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors won the shooting accuracy event when he knocked out three targets in eight shots and Ethan Werek of the Kingston Frontenacs won the relay race, edging Kingston native Taylor Hall of the Spitfires after the Western Conference won the four-man relay. The teams tied the breakaway relay with four goals each and then Team West took the win with an 11-7 win in the three-on-three game. Frontenacs’ goaltender Tyler Beskorowany said that he enjoyed playing in the event but that it was stressful - especially facing the offensively-talented Western Conference squad. “You have to make a big save time after time,” Beskorowany said. “If you do, you look great but if you don’t it’s another one up on the board.” Beskorowany said that the East is looking forward to rebounding in the game on Wednesday (7:00 p.m. Eastern on Rogers Sportsnet) and keeping the East’s four-game winning streak alive. “Tomorrow is another day and hopefully we get a little bit more luck in the game,” Beskorowany said. “It was fun - I had a blast.” Meanwhile, the Western Conference stars are determined to put an end to that streak and get their first all-star win since 2005. “Getting all the best players out on the ice at the same time was a lot of fun,” Moore said. “Hopefully we can ruin the East’s streak and bring the win back to the West.” ************************************************** ********* |

Just wondering, if Chris had stayed with the Icedogs:
a)would he have been named Captain b)would he have been selected to go to the Allstar game c)would he have had a great game d) would he have showcased his talents in front of NHL scouts You never know when or where opportunity will knock. |
